1. Floor & Decor

A new Floor & Decor location opened its doors in Grapevine, holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce to mark the occasion.

The business sells a selection of flooring, including wood, tile, stone and laminate. Floor & Decor’s Grapevine location also offers free design services for homeowners and professional customers, per previous reporting.

Floor & Decor will host a community block party from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 11 with food, giveaways for the first 200 guests and prize drawings every 15 minutes.

Rings Donuts now open in Colleyville

Rings Donuts now offers sweet breakfast treats in Colleyville, co-owner Yessenia Chavez said.

The details: The shop has a variety of donuts, including chocolate, glazed, blueberry fritter, donut holes, cinnamon rolls and filled donuts, according to its website. Customers can also purchase croissants, breakfast sandwiches and kolaches.

Available drinks include coffee beverages like lattes, mochas, macchiatos and orange juice, apple juice, energy drinks and tea.

Rings Donuts had a soft opening March 21 with limited hours from 7 a.m.-noon, Chevez said. The grand opening will be March 28 where the shop will launch different opening hours, she said.

Weir’s Furniture to close all stores, including in Southlake, Plano

Dallas-based Weir’s Furniture is set to close all locations in the coming months after 78 years in business, according to a news release.

The overview: Closing sales for merchandise in the stores began March 26, with stores remaining open until all items are sold. A spokesperson for Weir’s said the stores will likely officially close in May or June.

A decision to close the stores was made after evaluating the company’s long-term financial position, market conditions and operational challenges, per the news release.

What they're saying: “This was an extremely difficult decision, but closing now enables us to honor J. Ray and Bea’s legacy by finishing well and taking care of our employees,” said Al Boulden, Weir’s chairman of the board.

Speedway Children's Charities gives back to nonprofits across North Texas

For nearly 30 years, Speedway Children’s Charities has had an impact on nonprofits in the region through various sporting events, most notably the annual NASCAR race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

That is the largest single-event fundraiser for the nonprofit, which provides aid to children in need in Tarrant, Collin, Denton and Dallas counties, said Marissa Chaney, executive director of Speedway Children's Charities' Texas chapter.

Zooming in: Last year, the Speedway Children’s Charities’ Texas chapter, or SCC-Texas, awarded $250,000 in grants to 37 nonprofits throughout the region. Chaney said there were 165 requests submitted, and the board of directors looked through each application. Chaney said the awards range from $5,000-$20,000, depending on the specific project requested, and are for a specific project rather than operational funds.

The details: Texas Motor Speedway will host a trio of races from May 1-3. A live auction, a legacy shop with memorabilia and a 50-50 raffle are all part of the fundraising efforts during race weekend.
