Lamar Consolidated ISD received a ‘B’ accountability rating for the 2025-26 school year from the Texas Education Agency based on its A-F accountability system, according to TEA data released Aug. 15.

The breakdown: TEA provides district-wide and campus-specific accountability ratings. For LCISD, 47 of 53 campuses received a rating of ‘C’ or higher, with TEA data showing:

• 21 campuses receiving an ‘A’

• 20 campuses receiving a ‘B’

• 6 campuses receiving a ‘C’

• 3 campuses receiving a ‘D’

What they’re saying: LCISD Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens said he is happy for his students and faculty for all of their accomplishments, though he is confident they have the capability to do even better.

“Our responsibility is not simply to celebrate a rating,” Nivens said. “It is to understand what is working, identify where we must improve and continue raising the standard for every student in Lamar CISD. We are proud of the progress reflected in these results and we know there is more work ahead.”

Fulshear officials are preparing to adopt the city's fiscal year 2026-27 budget and tax rate.

What residents need to know: At an Aug. 18 meeting, Fulshear City Council proposed the maximum voter-approval rate of $0.20490 per $100 valuation, a 22% increase to the current tax rate of $0.167903 per $100 valuation.

In May 2025, residents voted for Fulshear to issue $13.5 million in park bonds and levy taxes to repay them. Due to the issuance of the voter-approved park bonds this year, the fiscal year 2026-27 interest and sinking rate has increased.

Though City Council leaned towards staff’s recommendation of $0.19310 per $100 valuation, which supports the preliminary budget, they voted for the maximum voter-approval rate as a precautionary measure since the council is not allowed to go above a tax rate once it is proposed.

On the horizon: City Council will hold a public hearing on the budget and tax rate at its Sept. 1 meeting. 

CenterPoint Energy officials announced a new initiative which aims to provide a savings of up to $5 billion to all residential and small to medium businesses over the next decade in a Aug. 11 news release.

The big picture: The initiative stems from both the strengthening of requirements for large load energy users like data centers in the 89th Legislative Session and a project to add 14 gigawatts of energy load to CenterPoint Energy's service area.

Senate Bill 6 was authorized in the 89th Legislative Session and requires any development which expects to utilize over 75 megawatts of power at any point to pay higher overall energy costs.

In their words: "We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to generate historic levels of customer savings of more than $5 billion statewide by leveraging new investment in large projects to build a more affordable, reliable and resilient electric grid for millions of customers," CenterPoint Energy Chairman and CEO Jason Wells said.
