Mazajj Organic Coffee now open in Cypress

Mazajj Organic Coffee officials confirmed the coffee shop is now offering Yemeni-style coffee in Cypress.

The details: Located at the former Black Rifle Coffee Company on Hwy. 290 in Cypress, Mazajj Organic Coffee has an additional location in Katy and in Houston on Richmond Ave. according to the business's website.

On the menu: Mazajj Organic Coffee offers a variety of Yemeni style coffees including hot and cold options, refreshments and pastries.

PREVIEW: Cy-Fair ISD board to review long-range planning, policy edits

In two upcoming January meetings, the Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees is set to review a handful of policy revisions, as well as receive a presentation about the district’s long-term needs.

At a glance: CFISD’s trustees will meet for a work session Jan. 12 to discuss items on the agenda for its Jan. 15 regular meeting. A large portion of the agenda pertains to revisions of district policies, including homebound instruction, crisis intervention and attendance. 

Also of note: Trustees will also receive two presentations during the Jan. 12 work session, one regarding the performance of students with disabilities and a second from the district’s Long Range Planning Committee, per the agenda.

The board is also expected to grant construction and water easements to Harris County Municipal Utility District 130, which spans a portion of Cy-Fair near Cypress Ridge High School, for an upcoming water line project along Taylor Road.

Stay tuned: Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mark Henry Administration Building, located at 11440 Matzke Road, Cypress.

‘Parkland is not replaceable’: Hermann Park Conservancy weighs in on Ben Taub Hospital expansion

Less than a month away from when Harris County Commissioners Court will hold a formal public hearing on the Ben Taub Hospital expansion in the Texas Medical Center, members of the Hermann Park Conservancy hosted the first town hall Jan. 7, alongside Harris Health officials, to inform the community about the group’s stance on the proposed land condemnation.

The standing-room-only audience gathered at the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion at Hermann Park to hear from several city, county and state officials. HPC President and CEO Cara Lambright said Houston already ranks poorly when it comes to park access. 

Quote of note: "Parkland is not replaceable," Lambright said. “It is an endangered species, and once taken, it is generally gone forever."

What happens next?:

  • Jan. 29: public hearing of Chapter 26 of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Code to take place at Harris County Commissioners Court
  • February-March: additional review and public comment
  • March: Harris County commissioners to vote

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announces 2026 season lineup

The entertainment lineup for the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was announced Jan. 8 and includes artists such as Lizzo and Tim McGraw.

Read all about it: Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has promoted agriculture and Western heritage through family-friendly experiences, competitions and live entertainment.

This year, Rodeo Houston will run from March 2-22, featuring 20 days of competition in bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping and women’s barrel racing and breakaway roping.

What to expect: On weekdays, NRG Stadium gates for the rodeo open at 6 p.m., with the rodeo starting at 6:45 p.m, according to Rodeo Houston’s website. The entertainer then takes the stage at 9 p.m., depending on the number of rodeo competitors and other production elements.

Annual memberships, Sept. 1-Aug. 31, cost $25 per person and provide access to programming across Lone Star College System campuses, the release states.

One more thing: American steakhouse chain Texas Roadhouse is set to bring its menu once again to the Cypress area as construction has began on a new location on West Road near the Grand Parkway.

Event details: As part of the new program, Community Impact is hosting InCIder Hours across the state, events designed to celebrate and engage the company’s top supporters.

Houston’s first InCIder Hour will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 21 at Community Impact’s Houston headquarters, 16300 Northwest Freeway, Jersey Village.
