The new partnership for aircraft maintenance technicians will help meet the need for more positions in the field, which is expected to have more than 1,000 annual openings.

Why it matters: Texas Workforce Commission data projects 1,500 positions will open in the field each year through 2032 because of turnover, growth and retirements. Under an agreement with American Airlines, students who meet certain academic and certification requirements could become employed by the airline.

American will also provide virtual learning opportunities and site visits with the airline’s maintenance operations.

Quote of note: “Our industry is facing a growing need for highly skilled maintenance professionals, and partnerships like this are essential to meeting that demand,” said Jess Barrier, managing director of Maintenance Operations Control and Training at American, in a news release.

Fitness studio Barry’s plans to open a new location in Southlake’s Park Village shopping center.

What they offer: Barry’s offers a high-intensity 50-minute group workout that incorporates strength training and cardio. The studio is known for its mix of high-energy workouts, motivating instructors and curated music for each session, company staff said.

Upcoming projects

1. Silverado Trail lane expansion

Project: Silverado Trail’s westbound lanes will be constructed between Kenley Drive and Burnett Drive in McKinney, including a bridge over Rowlett Creek. The project includes relocation of an existing North Texas Municipal Water District sanitary sewer line.

Update: Design is 90% complete. The project is expected to bid in early 2027.

2. Greenville Avenue reconstruction

Project: Work will feature a full concrete reconstruction of Greenville Avenue in Richardson from Centennial Boulevard to Huffhines Street. Also included will be sewer and water main improvements.

Update: Design for the project is around 60% complete, according to the city’s capital project tracker.

A new program from the Transportation Security Administration, new speed limits on International Parkway, new parking and access fees, hotel topping out and flight changes are among the updates from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Gateside by TSA PreCheck: Gateside is a new program launched that allows non-flyers with an eligible TSA PreCheck membership to enter the secure area to meet or see off friends and family at the gate, meet for a layover, or shop or eat at restaurants within the airport. The TSA website says the program is free and to apply one to three days before a planned visit. Children can also participate but must be included on their parent/guardian's application.
