Locally and veteran-owned community-driven automotive repair shop Community 1st Car Care is coming soon to Spring off Louetta Road in early August 2026, Founder Anthony Wheeler confirmed.

What they offer: According to a news release, the full-service facility's automotive maintenance and repair services include:

• Advanced Driver Assistance System calibrations

• Advanced vehicle diagnostics

Community 1st Car Care plans to give back to the community through local partnerships and initiatives such as providing programs intended to help families facing unexpected repair expenses, per the news release.

In their words: "Our goal isn't simply to repair cars," Wheeler said. "Our goal is to build trust and become the most respected automotive service company in our community."

A new Indo-Pak and Mediterranean grocer and restaurant is opening in Spring according to business officials.

The details: Barkat Market & Kitchen officials announced in a social media post the new storefront would provide a wide variety of groceries including fresh produce and meats. The business will also have an eatery area which will offer fresh cooked foods with flavors from India, Pakistan and the Mediterranean.

Gov. Greg Abbott named Robert S. Howden, one of his senior advisers and his office's legislative director, as Texas' 116th secretary of state effective July 18. Howden will succeed Secretary of State Jane Nelson, who resigned effective July 17 more than three years after she took office.

As the state's chief elections officer, Howden will be responsible for overseeing the application of Texas election laws and assisting local election officials. The secretary of state's office also manages business records, government rules and regulations, and other official duties.

Following Abbott's appointment, Howden must be confirmed for the position by at least two-thirds of the Texas Senate. The state Legislature's next regular session will begin in January.
