What to know before heading to the polls May 2 in The Woodlands area

Election day is May 2 in The Woodlands area for several races in Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North, as well as the seat representing Texas Senate District 4.

Shenandoah City Council: Residents will see Shenandoah council Positions 1 and 5 on the ballot along with the race for mayor, according to the city of Shenandoah’s election website. Incumbent Ron Raymaker is not seeking reelection for Position 1.

Oak Ridge North City Council: Residents will see Oak Ridge North City Council Places 1 and 2 on the ballot, along with the race for mayor. City Council incumbents Rick Moffatt and Alex Jones are running uncontested, according to the city of Oak Ridge North’s election website. For the mayoral race, candidates are Paul Bond and Russell S. Dudley.

Texas Senate District 4Brandon Creighton vacated the seat after being named the chancellor and CEO of the Texas Tech University System.

Truluck’s celebrates decade in The Woodlands with renovation

After 10 years operating in The Woodlands, Truluck's, a Houston restaurant founded in 1992, has reopened The Woodlands location following a 19-day closure due to renovations, operating partner Chris Davis said.

The details: Davis said The Woodlands Truluck’s location celebrated its 10-year anniversary this April with a few renovations. Renovations included several small enhancements that refreshed the overall ambiance, such as new tile, tables and chairs, updated lighting fixtures, and the addition of fresh flowers and candles.

What they offer: Known for its seafood and crab, Davis said that while stone crab season ends in May, the eatery plans to offer other seasonal bites this summer.

Soccer Shuttle service from The Woodlands planned for FIFA World Cup 2026

Partnering with Visit The Woodlands, First Class Transportation and the Houston-Galveston Area Council, The Woodlands Township announced the Soccer Shuttle, which will offer round-trip services on all Houston match days this summer.

What to expect: Passengers for the Soccer Shuttle must have a valid FIFA World Cup 2026 match ticket, according to the release. Shuttle reservations must be made in advance, and riders must present proof of their game-day ticket when boarding. Standard bus tickets and walk-up passengers are not accepted.

Reservations for the Soccer Shuttle are free through funding from H-GAC through its Commute Solutions initiative, but a nonrefundable administrative fee of $8.50 plus any applicable processing fees will be charged at the time of booking.

There are three departure points in The Woodlands:

  • The Woodlands Resort, 2301 N. Millbend Drive, The Woodlands
  • Embassy Suites by Hilton The Woodlands at Hughes Landing, 1855 Hughes Landing Blvd., The Woodlands

21K voters cast ballots during early voting period for May 2 election

During the April 20-28 early voting period for the May 2 election, 21,253 voters in Montgomery County cast ballots, according to early voting turnout data from Montgomery County Elections Central. Per Montgomery County Elections Central, 473,241 voters were registered as of April 28—meaning 4.5% of eligible voters cast ballots.

Breaking it down: 18,052 of the ballots cast were in-person, and there were 3,201 mail-in ballots, according to Montgomery County Elections Central. The polling locations that had the most in-person ballots cast were the Central Library in Conroe and the Mitchell Library in The Woodlands, with 3,347 and 3,285 ballots cast, respectively.


Before you go: Election day is May 2. In Montgomery County, voters must vote at their designated precincts on election day.

25K Montgomery, Harris County residents voted early in Texas Senate District 4 special election

Approximately 25,802 voters in Harris and Montgomery counties cast early ballots in the May 2 special election to fill former Sen. Brandon Creighton’s seat in the Texas Legislature, according to unofficial early voting results released by the Texas Secretary of State's office.

By the numbers: Votes cast in Harris and Montgomery counties combined accounted for 81% of turnout during the early voting period, which ran from April 20-28. Texas Senate District 4 also includes portions of Galveston, Chambers and Jefferson counties.

On the ballot: Two candidates are facing off in the May 2 election to replace Creighton, who resigned from office after being named chancellor and CEO of the Texas Tech University System. Democrat Ron Angeletti is competing against Republican Brett W. Ligon to serve for the remainder of Creighton’s term through January 2027.

Keep in mind: Montgomery County residents must visit their designated voting precincts May 2 to participate in the election, but Harris County residents can vote at any polling location.

Lozano’s Mexican-Latin Cocina opens 2nd location in Richmond

Lozano’s Mexican-Latin Cocina opened April 16 at 8323 FM 723, Richmond.

The restaurant features a variety of Mexican-Latin cuisine, including fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, salads and soups, as well as specialty entrees such as pollo con camarones, according to its website.

Customers can also enjoy a variety of margaritas and desserts such as flan and churros.
