Two candidates are vying for Texas House District 24 in the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

Meet the candidates: Republican incumbent Greg Bonnen will face Democratic challenger Frank Carr in the race for Texas House District 24, which covers portions of Friendswood, League City, Dickinson and other portions of Galveston County.

Nearly a decade after opening, El Tiempo Cantina in Webster has closed, a spokesperson with the corporate office said. 

However, the representative said that the franchise owner of the Webster location conveyed that the location may open in the future at an undisclosed time. 

Diving in deeper: El Tiempo Cantina has locations all over the Greater Houston area and serves Tex-Mex cuisine. The restaurant opened a location at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in 2023, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Steve Sipes' State Farm firm relocated to Crenshaw Road in Pasadena in early August, he said. Sipes' previous location was on Scarsdale Boulevard in the southern Houston area.

What they offer: The business offers auto, renters, home and life insurance as well as online auto insurance and financial services.

The office of Gov. Greg Abbott announced a $138 billion investment in Texas transportation infrastructure, including projects in the Greater Houston region, according to an Aug. 27 news release from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Unified Transportation Program for 2026 was approved during an August meeting of the Texas Transportation Commission.

The breakdown: The program’s funding is divided into two portions, $95 billion for transportation projects across the state, and $43 billion which is reserved for routine maintenance and development. The total of $138 billion is intended to be spent on projects and maintenance over the next 10 years, according to the news release.
