$23M in Friendswood infrastructure, transportation projects make progress

Several capital improvement projects in Friendswood are making progress, including efforts to improve connectivity and update the city’s water infrastructure.

What happened: Friendswood City Council recently heard a presentation from Friendswood’s Engineering Director Jil Arias about several capital improvement projects ongoing in the city at its April 6 meeting.

The details: The projects, which total a $23 million infrastructure investment, will be funded by a variety of sources, including bonds, sales tax and Federal Emergency Management Agency and American Rescue Plan Act grants.

PREVIEW: Friendswood ISD to consider UIL participation fees

The Friendswood ISD board of trustees is scheduled at its April 13 meeting to consider implementing participation fees for University Interscholastic League sports, speech and debate at Friendswood High School and Junior High, according to board documents. 

The details: The proposed fee structure includes two tiers:

  • Tier 1: band, baseball, basketball, football and volleyball

  • Tier 2: drill team, varsity cheerleading and wrestling

What’s next: The board of trustees will meet to discuss the fee implementation at 5:45 p.m. in the FISD boardroom, located at 302 Laurel Drive, Friendswood.

Texas Renaissance Festival tickets going on sale April 15

Tickets for the 2026 Texas Renaissance Festival will go on sale April 15, according to an April 2 news release. There will be a 20% discount from April 15-30.

Quote of note: “April 15 marks the beginning of the journey towards this year’s festival, and we’re excited to offer this special discount to our guests to celebrate the season ahead,” TRF Marketing Director Tyler Moyer said via news release. “We can’t wait to open the gates of the Texas Renaissance Festival once again and create magical memories for every visitor.”

More details: The Texas Renaissance Festival’s 52nd season is scheduled to take place from Oct. 10 through Nov. 29, and will feature over 70 acres of activities, entertainment and markets for attendees, according to the news release.
