CCISD celebrates benchmark wins at the beginning of new school year

As of the 2026-27 school year, 100% of Clear Creek ISD’s school buses are fully air-conditioned, according to a “program spotlight” of benchmarks the district has achieved for the new school year.

Additionally, the district’s transportation team completed all bus routes in earlier times than in previous two school years.  

The details: CCISD’s board of trustees heard updates on facility and bus upgrades at its Aug. 24 meeting as part of the program spotlight.

What else: CCISD's Safe and Secure Schools Department bolstered its elementary campus presence during the first week of school by bringing 11 outside law enforcement officers from Galveston County, Houston Police Department, UTMB and Webster Police Department, according to the presentation.

League City approves first reading of $333M budget, no-new-revenue tax rate

League City City Council unanimously approved the first reading to adopt a $333 million budget and a $0.36355 tax rate per $100 valuation of a home for fiscal year 2026-27 at League City City Council’s Aug. 25 meeting.

What residents should know: If approved, the second reading will mark the 12th consecutive year the city’s property tax rate has decreased.

Also of note: The city is proposing a $333 million budget, with public safety as the single largest operational cost, according to city documents.

What’s next: City Council will vote on the second and final readings of the budget and the tax rate at its Sept. 8 meeting, according to city documents.

Will Clayton Parkway lane closures planned near IAH this week

Motorists traveling to and from George Bush Intercontinental Airport this week should allow extra travel time due to nearby road construction, Houston Airport System officials announced in an Aug. 24 news release.

What you need to know: Beginning with prep work Aug. 24, HAS will repair concrete in the westbound lanes of Will Clayton Parkway between Kenswick Drive and Lee Road. Per the release, major demolition and concrete work will occur Aug. 25-28.

Officials noted motorists should anticipate lane closures, especially overnight, when two of three lanes will be closed for construction. Motorists can take John F. Kennedy Boulevard as an alternate route during construction. 

Stay tuned: All three lanes are expected to reopen by the afternoon of Aug. 28, per the release.

Q&A: Get to know 3 candidates for Texas Railroad Commissioner

Texas voters will choose from Republican Bo French, Libertarian Arthur DiBianca and Democrat Jon Rosenthal in this November's Texas Railroad Commission race.

The details: The winner of the race will be sworn in to replace incumbent Commissioner Jim Wright in January.

French beat Wright in a May Republican primary runoff, advancing to the general election. Rosenthal ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while DiBianca was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

Did you know? The three-member railroad commission does not have any jurisdiction over the state's railroads—that authority was transferred to the Texas Department of Transportation and the federal government by 2005, according to the commission's website. Instead, the agency regulates Texas' oil and gas industries.

Looking ahead: Early voting in dozens of local and state races runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
