PREVIEW: Seabrook to consider $850K economic incentive to lure Italian restaurant to Seabrook Town Center

The city of Seabrook hopes to attract businesses to the under-construction Seabrook Town Center by offering economic incentives to open at the development.

The details: At its July 21 meeting, Seabrook City Council will consider whether to award an $850,000 new construction and development grant to Pomodoro’s Cucina Italiana.

The grant would be awarded in three installments of $600,000 upon opening, followed by two annual payments of $125,000.

The local impact: According to city documents, Pomodoro’s Cucina Italiana is projected to be a revenue and job creator, producing:

  • 15 to 20 full-time employees
  • 15 to 20 part-time employees
  • $2 million in sales in the first year
  • $4.3 million in economic impact from sales tax, property tax and employee wages after 10 years

Also of note: The restaurant was founded by Louis and Josephine Floridia, and the family has operated in the Bay Area for over 20 years with locations in League City and Clear Lake, Community Impact reported.

Looking ahead: Seabrook Town Center is slated to open by December 2027.

The UPS Store opened its third location in mid-May in League City, staff said.

What they offer: The store offers a full range of UPS shipping services, including next-day delivery. The business also offers notary, fax, printing, passport photo and document shredding services.

New menus for Houston Restaurant Weeks go live ahead of fall event

Produced by The Cleverley Stone Foundation, Houston Restaurant Weeks is a multiweek event from August through September that helps raise funds for the Houston Food Bank through specially priced, prix fixe menus at participating restaurants.

HRW is now entering its 23rd year, and menus for the 2026 event officially went live July 15.

How it works: Houston Restaurant Weeks will return Aug. 1 through Sept. 7, offering 38 days of prix fixe brunch, lunch and dinner menus. According to a July 15 news release, more than 350 restaurants are expected to participate across the Greater Houston area from the Inner Loop, downtown and the Galleria to Sugar Land, The Woodlands and Galveston.

Customers can expect to find special menus throughout the month that range from $25 to $55, depending on the menu. Brunch and lunch are $25, with dinner options priced at $39 or $55.

Why it matters: For every dollar donated, approximately three meals are generated by the Houston Food Bank. In 2025, the event garnered over $1.6 million, per prior reporting.

Houston Airport System welcomes more than 4M passengers during FIFA World Cup

Houston Airport System welcomed an estimated 4.5 million passengers during the period in which the Houston area hosted 2026 FIFA World Cup games, according to a July 9 news release.

The details: Officials noted nearly 1.8 million departing passengers were screened by Transportation Security Administration officials at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport during the 25-day travel period. Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials processed more than 439,000 international passengers at IAH and Hobby from June 12-July 3.

Also of note: IAH handled 60 charter flights related to FIFA World Cup 2026, including 30 team charters serving 13 national teams, per the release. Royal Air Maroc and Corendon operated 30 additional charter flights carrying more than 5,800 passengers.

What they’re saying: "We understood from the beginning that for many visitors, the airport would be their first and last impression of Houston," said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. "Our employees, volunteers, airlines, federal partners, concessionaires and regional partners worked together to make sure Houston was ready. They delivered."
