Tarrant County heart disease deaths lower than state, national averages

Heart disease was the second-leading cause of death and is responsible for 1 in every 5 deaths among those who live in Tarrant County, according to August 2025 data from Tarrant County Public Health.

However, Tarrant County ranked lower than the Texas and United State averages in heart disease death from 2019-24, according to reports from the county and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The overview: Heart disease includes conditions such as coronary heart disease, coronary artery disease, angina and health care provider diagnosed heart attacks, the reports state.

From 2015-24, the percentage of adults 18 and older with heart disease dipped slightly from 5.9% to 5.5% in Tarrant County. Heart disease was the top cause of death for males, non-Hispanic black residents, non-Hispanic white residents and people 65 and older, according to data from the county.

Compared to the state of Texas and the United States as a whole, Tarrant County ranked lower in heart disease mortality rate.

Trademark announces Whole Foods for Southlake’s Shivers Farm development

Following approval of a master development agreement for Shivers Farm, a mixed-use development in Southlake, an organic grocer, Whole Foods Market, will be coming to the property.

Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Company announced the grocer would be coming to the 40-acre mixed-use development in a June 18 news release.

The overview: Vertical construction on the Whole Foods Market is set to begin this summer, which coincides with the planned groundbreaking for Shivers Farm, per the news release. 

Shivers Farm will include 111,000 square feet of retail, 38,000 square feet of boutique Class A office space, 37 single-family homes, and a 3-acre pad site for a hotel, entertainment venue or additional retail, according to the news release. Southlake City Council originally approved the development in October 2025.

What’s next: Trademark officials anticipate breaking ground on Shivers Farm this summer, with the project’s completion in the fourth quarter of 2027, per the news release.

Grapevine officials approve repurposing warehouse for Classic Chevrolet service center

Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine will begin construction to repurpose an existing warehouse to become an automotive repair garage.

The details: During a joint meeting with the Grapevine Planning and Zoning Committee on June 16, Grapevine City Council unanimously approved the request from Classic Chevrolet representatives to renovate the warehouse facility located on 2200 William D. Tate Ave.

Classic Chevrolet officials submitted a conditional use permit to turn the empty 180,274-square-foot warehouse into a repair garage with 121 service bays. An additional 110,958 square feet for an indoor and outdoor vehicle staging area will also be retrofitted, according to city documents.

What they're saying: “With 120 bays, we can grow to 80 technicians," Classic Chevrolet Vice President Bently Durant said. “We’re recruiting them directly out of the Grapevine High School shop programs and the surrounding high school shop programs.”

Looking forward: The new service bay is expected to welcome customers starting in December, Durant said.

Bojangles sets opening date for Celina location

Bojangles will open in Celina on June 23.

The franchise is known for Cajun-seasoned fried chicken with sides like buttermilk biscuits, fries and dirty rice.

Bojangles’s Celina location will hold its grand opening at 5 a.m., and the first 100 dine-in customers will receive a $100 Bojangles gift card, Batt said.

A new storefront for simple syrup company Toasted Simple is now open in East McKinney.

The business, which was founded just over five years ago, makes simple syrups infused with real toasted food. The East McKinney shop offers cocktails and mocktails made with Toasted Simple syrups.

PS offers private luxury facility with transportation to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

PS, formerly The Private Suites, has opened its location at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The Los Angeles-based company used Dallas-based designer Jean Liu for its third terminal in the United States, joining Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

PS offers a terminal option with private TSA and customs clearance, luxury spaces and white-glove service before and after your flight, according to its website.

The details: The 12,200-square-foot facility is located in Corporate Aviation, DFW Airport terminals. PS is membership-based with annual and per-visit costs, which allows access to a private lounge, food, drinks and chauffeur services.

A closer look: PS DFW’s location features The Salon, a social lounge with a 40-foot bar. Dallas-based artist Amy Berlin created the mural inside The Salon.
