Sugar Land officials are seeking public feedback for the city's inaugural Community Expo happening early next year.

The expo invites residents to meet city leaders, staff and community partners to foster a greater connection, according to the city’s website. 

Get involved: Sugar Land residents are encouraged to complete the online survey to share ideas, interests and feedback to help city officials plan the event, city officials shared in an Aug. 25 Facebook post.

The survey asks residents about what they would like information on at the expo with options like volunteer opportunities, small business support and navigating services. Additionally, it shares potential activities options such as hands-on demonstrations, giveaways, networking and childcare opportunities.

Looking ahead: The survey is open through Sept. 4, per the city’s Facebook post. The expo is scheduled for Feb. 20, 2027 and is free and open to all ages, according to the city’s website.

Wishbone Pet Care is celebrating its 15-year anniversary of serving Missouri City pets with a September celebration, officials announced in a Aug. 18 news release.

What they offer: The pet care facility offers overnight boarding, dog daycare, consultations for grooming clients and dental cleaning, according to its website.

The business offers three membership plans that range from $45 to $450 a month, offering perks like unlimited bath and cleaning services for the cheapest membership and unlimited doggy care for the latter.

Mark your calendar: Wishbone Pet Care officials invite Fort Bend County residents to visit the facility Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for a celebration featuring free pet teeth and ear cleanings, drinks, snacks, raffles and games.

The event will also feature pet adoption from the Fort Bend County Animal Services, who will receive 10% of the day’s proceeds.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport officials celebrated an Aug. 7 opening of several new Farmer’s Fridge kiosks throughout the airport, according to a post on the airport’s Facebook page.

The details: Officials noted the grab-and-go offerings include fresh sandwiches, wraps, salads and other seasonal surprises, according to the post.

Officials noted four kiosks are currently installed near gates A9, A27, D17 and the airport’s Car Rental Facility.

Since late May, all autonomous vehicle companies have been required to receive authorization from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to operate on Texas roads. During an Aug. 25 hearing, state senators heard the first testimony on autonomous vehicle safety since the new regulations took effect.

The overview: To date, the DMV has received 42 complaints about driverless vehicles, officials said.

No complaints have led the agency to suspend or revoke an autonomous vehicle operator's authorization. That occurs "when the operation has resulted in or is likely to result in serious bodily injury," according to Corrie Thompson, who leads the DMV’s enforcement division.

Zooming in: Lawmakers said they wanted to ensure driverless vehicles were not rolling out too quickly, adding that they hoped the vehicles would help address Texas' high rate of fatal crashes.

Lt. William White, who leads the Austin Police Department’s highway enforcement division, said first responders have seen consistent issues with AVs, including when a Waymo blocked an ambulance for about 28 seconds following the deadly March 1 Sixth Street shooting.
