Q&A: Get to know the candidates looking to be Allen's next mayor

Allen voters will select a new mayor this May.

What’s happening: Current Allen Mayor Baine Brooks is completing his final term in the seat and cannot run for reelection based on the city's ordinances for term limits. Candidates for the Allen mayoral race include Chris Schulmeister and Dave Shafer. The filing period opened Jan. 14 and ended at 5 p.m. Feb. 13.

Election day is Saturday, May 2. Early voting begins Monday, April 20, and ends Tuesday, April 28, per the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Playa Bowls eyes April opening date for Allen location

Playa Bowls is expecting to open its Allen location this spring, franchise owner David Butler said.

The details: The business sells smoothie bowls, smoothies, juices and cold brew, according to its website. Playa Bowls also has a location in Southlake and a location coming soon to McKinney.
