Georgetown plans new traffic signals, upgrades to intersections

The city of Georgetown has several intersection upgrades ongoing and planned, including constructing new traffic signals as well as upgrading current ones.

What to expect: The city, in conjunction with partners such as the Texas Department of Transportation and Georgetown ISD, will construct new traffic signals at the following intersections:

  • SE Inner Loop at Snead Drive and Blue Springs Boulevard
  • Williams Drive at CR 245
  • CR 245 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard
  • Lakeway Boulevard at Northwest Boulevard
  • Hwy. 29 and Parkside Parkway

There are also several intersection improvement projects in the works. 

One more thing: In addition to constructing new signals, the city is taking on a traffic signal upgrade project utilizing $2.5 million approved in the most recent budget.

The Georgetown Public Works Department maintains 82 traffic signals, 47 of which were acquired from TxDOT in 2023. The project will ensure all traffic signals have upgraded controllers, battery backups and detection technology.

Frankie’s NY Style Pizza & Pasta reopens in Georgetown

Frankie's NY Style Pizza & Pasta reopened Jan. 19 in Georgetown after damage from a fire forced the restaurant to close its doors in October 2024, manager Jeff Metalia said. 

The details: Customers can once again enjoy a menu of garlic cheese bread, salad, pasta entrees, pizza and subs.

The cause: The October 2024 fire began at Office Lounge, a bar in the Leander Road strip center, and spread to several businesses.

ACC workforce, health programs see double-digit enrollment increase

Amid enrollment growth across a majority of its programs, Austin Community College is reporting significant growth across workforce and health care programs. 

What you need to know: The community college district shared an update on enrollment Jan. 20, the start of the spring 2026 semester. 

Data updated as of Jan. 16 shows enrollment is up 7% year over year. More students are also choosing to remain with ACC semester to semester, the report shows, with returning students up 9% compared to 2025, and 23% compared to 2024.

An electric vehicle sales center and a new residential building are among the newest projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Here are five of the most expensive projects filed with the TDLR in the Austin metro this week.

1. Gunter Street residential building: A five-story, multifamily building with a five-story parking garage is planned near the East Seventh Street H-E-B.

  • Location: 1135 Gunter St., Austin
  • Estimated timeline: May 1, 2026-Aug. 1, 2028
  • Estimated cost: $80 million

2. Kelly Lane Phase 3: The city of Pflugerville will reconstruct curbs and gutters, four roundabouts and 10-inch sidewalks on each side of the road. Phase 2 of the projected completed in late 2025.
  • Location: Kelly Lane, from Moorlynch Avenue to Weiss Lane, Pflugerville
  • Estimated timeline: Oct. 1, 2026-March 31, 2030
  • Estimated cost: $40 million

Eight Republican candidates are running to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate during the upcoming March 3 primary election.

The big picture: Republican incumbent John Cornyn is seeking a fifth term as Texas' senior senator. Each state has two U.S. senators—Cornyn currently serves alongside Republican Ted Cruz.

Seven Republican candidates are challenging Cornyn for the Republican nomination: John O. Adefope, Anna Bender, Virgil John Bierschwale, Sara Canady, Wesley Hunt, Gulrez “Gus” Khan and Ken Paxton.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in the Republican primary, a runoff election will be held between the two top vote-getters on May 26.

Looking ahead: The winning Republican candidate will face the winner of the Democratic nomination in November; the winner of that election will be sworn in to the U.S. Senate in January 2027.
