Bond refinancing, tax credit requirements: 3 updates from Denton City Council’s Dec. 2 meeting

Denton City Council met Dec. 2 to discuss updates to the housing tax credit program, bond financing and an interim city manager. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. Denton approves amendments to housing tax credit program
The housing tax credit program is a federally funded, state-administered program that supports affordable housing by giving tax exemptions to developments that include income-restricted rental housing, per city documents.

2. City officials discussed the process of hiring an interim city manager
Members of Denton City Council discussed a transition plan for the city manager role during the work session. City Manager Sara Hensley’s last day with the city of Denton will be March 31, Director of Human Resources Megan Gilbreath said.

“I believe it’s in our best interest to have an interim city manager,” council member Jill Jester said. “I think the sooner, the better.”

3. Denton OKs up to $300M in utility system refunding bonds
Council approved an ordinance allowing the city to sell up to $300 million in Utility System Revenue Refunding Bond.

Nexus Game Lounge offers table top and board games in Denton

Nexus Game Lounge opened at Golden Triangle Mall in Denton Nov. 28, company Marketing Director Sarah Pippins said.

In a nutshell: The business offers board games and accessories for tabletop role-playing games, including Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40,000 and Pathfinder, Pipppins said. Nexus also offers cards and accessories for trading card games like Magic the Gathering.

Looking ahead: Pippins added that a second space, attached to the shop, is under development. The additional space, called the NX, will serve beer and wine and host social events like trivia. The NX does not have an expected opening date.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Wabi House in Keller is offering free ramen and matcha for its grand opening Dec. 5. There will be live DJs and liquor testing at the event, which is open to the public.

The restaurant menu focuses mainly on ramen noodles like tonkotsu, spicy miso, shoyu, dry garlic and tsukumen. Wabi House also has yakitori, a skewer with different meat options, and small plates like takoyaki and bone marrow crab.

The menu at Taiwanese restaurant Tao Rice Roll includes rice rolls, pancakes, sticky rice, wonton soup and more.

Tao Rice Roll, which opened in November in McKinney, also has locations in Plano, Houston, Sugarland and College Station.

ATI Physical Therapy to open 2nd Denton location

ATI Physical Therapy is opening another Denton location on University Drive, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. 

Zoom in: The business offers physical therapy to treat injuries and treat chronic pain, according to its website.

The 2,500-square foot project is expected to cost $305,000.

Construction is expected to wrap up in mid-December.
