Preview: Montgomery County seeking FEMA money to acquire flood-prone homes

Montgomery County is looking to hire a consulting firm to help it win grant money to acquire and demolish around 50 homes that are prone to flooding.

What’s happening? County commissioners are meeting on Nov. 5 to discuss hiring Hagerty Consulting, Inc. The firm would be tasked with helping the county navigate submitting a grant application to the Texas Water Development Board for money to buy properties that are at risk of future flood loss.

Montgomery County is seeking to acquire 50 properties, according to a proposal from Hagerty.

Also on the agenda: Montgomery County and Conroe are exploring an agreement that would see the latter direct some of its hotel tax funds toward a grant to support restoring the Montgomery County Courthouse.

To receive the money, the county must provide a local match of $773,249. Conroe and Montgomery County are looking to split that cost between the two equally.
