Montgomery County Association of Business Women celebrates 20th anniversary

Founded by Carol Gooch in 2005, Montgomery County Association of Business Gooch said the organization is celebrating 20 years in August. The nonprofit supports local women entrepreneurs and offers scholarships annually.

How it started: After graduating from Leadership Montgomery County in 2003, Gooch was notified of the need for a professional business networking group in Montgomery County, according to the website. After a year of planning, Gooch founded the Montgomery County Association of Business along with 52 women.

What they offer: Formed to allow like minded business women to have a place to learn and connect, guest speakers and members provide educational presentations to business women. Today Gooch continues as the Executive Director of the Montgomery County Association of Business and grants scholarships to deserving female high school seniors of Montgomery County high schools.

What else? To support the nonprofit, Montgomery County Association of Business often holds fundraisers. Gooch said the Montgomery County Association of Business is holding its annual bowling fundraiser on Aug. 16 from noon-4 p.m..

New Caney ISD to open registration for returning, new students July 13

Starting July 13, new and returning New Caney ISD students can register for the 2026-27 school year—which begins Aug. 6—according to the district's website.

What parents should know: Returning NCISD students can reenroll beginning July 13, according to the district's website. Returning student registration must be completed by Aug. 5 at 5 p.m., or the student will need to be enrolled via the enrollment process for new students.

According to NCISD's website, to reenroll a returning student, parents or guardians need to:

  • Fill out the Returning Student Online Verification

  • Provide proof of residency

  • Complete the student's required immunizations

What else? Students who are new to NCISD can register online beginning July 13. To register in person, new students and their guardians can visit Porter High School on the following dates and times:

  • July 21, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

  • July 22, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • July 23, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

SHSU opens applications for new master’s in applied biomedical sciences

Sam Houston State University is now accepting applications for its new master’s program in applied biomedical sciences, per a July 7 news release. The inaugural cohort will begin this upcoming fall.

What you need to know: The new master’s program, which will be offered online, will include tracks in medical/healthcare artificial intelligence, healthcare technologies, regulatory affairs and clinical sciences, as previously reported. The application fee is waived for students who are applying for the fall cohort, per the news release. Interested students can apply through ApplyTexas, and the university will also be hosting virtual information sessions July 22 and July 30 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Some context: The new master’s program will also be connected to SHSU’s Institute for Medical Artificial Intelligence. The institute is working to advance education, research, innovation and the responsible use of AI in medicine and healthcare, per the news release.

Christian Youth Theater Houston celebrates 20 years of musical theater education

On June 20, Christian Youth Theater Houston celebrated its 20th season with a red carpet event, Community Engagement Director Mary Ramsower confirmed. The fine arts company’s first summer camps were held in 2006, and it has since provided the Greater Houston area with musical theater education for two decades.

The background: CYT is a national after-school theater arts training program dedicated to helping kids and teens grow in their singing, dancing, acting, improvisation and technical skills.

Offered in two-hour classes throughout the school year, students can receive individualized training from instructors in the discipline of their choosing, according to the company’s website.

Another detail: With branches nationwide, CYT allows enrolled students ages 8-18 to audition for productions.

Looking ahead: Tickets for CYT Houston’s Aug. 7-16 production of “The Wizard of Oz” at The Crighton Theatre went on sale early June. Patrons can visit the website to secure their seats, as well as find out more information regarding showtimes, pricing and the venue’s address.
