Check out 3 winners from Central Texas Community Foundation’s philanthropy awards

The Central Texas Community Foundation announced the winners for three philanthropic awards at its 7th annual Legacy Luncheon Sept. 24.

Overview: Each year, the CTCF honors nonprofit organizations, volunteers and businesses that have donated time, money and resources throughout the community. This year, more than 800 guests attended the luncheon at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock.

The Elizabeth Brenenstuhl Unsung Hero Award, honoring community volunteers, was awarded to Lisa Birkman. Birkman, a former Williamson County commissioner, has worked with CASA of Williamson County since 2014.

Did you know?: The Central Texas Community Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that since its inception has granted over $32 million into the local community.

Recently, CTCF partnered with Georgetown Health Foundation to launch the Center for Nonprofit Success, which provides education, training and capacity building for nonprofit organizations staff and boards.

Monk's Indian Fusion now open in Round Rock retail center

An Austin-area franchise of the Indian-Chinese fusion restaurant The Monk's Indian Fusion opened in the University Commons retail center in September.

About the business: Franchise owner Jagadish Vallabaneni said the restaurant’s menu consists of noodles, curries, biryanis and street-style starters.

Ronald McDonald House to open at Texas Children's Hospital North Austin

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas has announced the development of a new Ronald McDonald House for patients at Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin.

What to know: Construction has begun at Austin’s latest Ronald McDonald House which sparks the start of the first phase of A Place Like Home, RMHC CTX’s capital campaign, a news release states.

The campaign is dedicated to increasing capacity while ensuring families have access to comfort, care and community throughout their child’s medical journey.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Austin area.

Eggman ATX has brought its New York-style breakfast sandwiches to another location in Austin, opening up a second food truck in the Mueller Hangar mobile food vender collective.

Founded by Queens native Richard Tavetian, Eggman brings a familiar favorite breakfast option from the East Coast down south.

The menu features a collection of “egg-slingin’ good” options such as the Bodega Classic with its two fried eggs, smoked center cut bacon, cheese and choice of sauce on a roll.

Restaurant owners Forrest Higdon and Jason Carrier are collaborating to open Happy Slice Pizza in late October.

Carrier owns Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex, which opened on Parmer Lane in 2022, according to previous Community Impact reporting and Higdon owns Gumby's Pizza in San Marcos, which he initially opened in 2009, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

The duo is coming together to create a healthier pizza spot with more gluten-free offerings, no cellulose and unbromated flour.
