The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees are slated to receive a report on student performance data from the 2026 state assessment and accountability ratings, and to discuss board policy modifications during the Sept. 10 and 14 board meetings.

At a glance: Per previous Community Impact reporting, CFISD maintained a ‘B’ A-F accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2025-26 school year. CFISD students in grades third through eighth outscored state averages in all but two exam subjects in the spring 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Alongside receiving the report on the mentioned performance data, the board of trustees will consider approving board policy changes related to parents rights and responsibilities regarding student surveys, and will conduct a first reading of policy revisions related to class ranking.

The board will also consider approving the following agenda items:

• 2026-27 Senate Bill 12 Annual Certification of Compliance
• 2023-26 Texas State University Audit Survey for CFISD
• 2026-27 Strategic Plan Goals and Performance Objectives

On Sept. 3, Lone Star College System’s board of trustees voted to cancel the November trustee election after no new candidates filed to challenge the three incumbents.

In a nutshell: LSCS trustees for Districts 3, 4 and 9 were scheduled to be up for election Nov. 3, as previously reported by Community Impact. These trustee spots are held by:

• Board Secretary Iesheia Wilson for District 3
• Art Murillo for District 4
• Jim Cain for District 9

Aug. 17 was the last day for candidates to file to run for election in November, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Four candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the Nov. 3 election.

What's happening: Libertarian Anthony Cristo, Democrat Vikki Goodwin and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick are challenging Republican incumbent Dan Patrick, who is seeking a fourth term.

The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

How we got here: Patrick won his Republican primary race in March, while Goodwin advanced to the general election after beating another Democrat in a May primary runoff, Community Impact reported. Cristo and McCormick were selected as their parties' respective candidates during nominating conventions in April.

Looking ahead: Early voting in the midterm election runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
