From the annual Tomball German Heritage Festival to go-kart races, there are several events to attend in the Tomball area this weekend. Check them out below. This is not a comprehensive list, and events are subject to change.

Tomball Athletics Booster Bash Fundraiser
At Juergens Park, the Tomball Athletics Booster Club will host a party to help raise funds for scholarships over the next year. Some of the events for attendees include live music, auctions and a cornhole tournament. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase, including crawfish and barbecue. Locals are encouraged to bring their friends and enjoy themselves.

Lone Star College-Tomball Community Easter Egg Hunt

Lone Star College-Tomball will be hosting an easter egg hunt for families. Children 12 and under are encouraged to RSVP and attend. Free food, games and photos with the Easter bunny will all be available.

Discount Tire now open in Magnolia

Discount Tire has opened a new location in the Magnolia Place shopping center in Magnolia, Rachel Steele, Magnolia Economic Development Corp. executive director, confirmed.

What you need to know: The location offers online scheduling and includes multiple service bays for car, truck, SUV and trailer tire services.

The store also features a seated waiting area with viewing bays into the service area.

Steele said a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for April.

MD Anderson Cancer Center opens Colorectal Center

On March 19, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center announced the opening of its new Colorectal Center located on the second floor of its Duncan Building, per a news release.

More details: The 24,565-square-foot center blends art and technology, aiming to create a calm, healing environment focused on patient experience, per the news release. This center includes 32 exam rooms, along with a lobby featuring three focus rooms. Patients will have access to supportive services such as nutrition counseling, pain management, genetic counseling and risk assessment.

Quote of note: “When we treat young patients, we are addressing more than just the cancer,” Dr. Y. Nancy You, professor of colon and rectal surgery and director of the young-onset colorectal cancer program, said via news release. “We also recognize the significant psychological impact that a diagnosis can have on their lives. This new center provides a dedicated space where we can deliver personalized, whole-person care and walk that journey with every patient, so they know they are not alone."

Houston rental data shows more single-family homes available on the market

Houston’s single-family rental homes saw an 6.8% increase in leased properties compared to last February, according to the Houston Association of Realtors’ February Rental Market Update released March 18.

By the numbers: Alongside the higher number of leased single-family homes, the average lease price declined by 0.6% compared to last year. The number of days on market for homes, however, increased, jumping to 50 days compared to 44 days last year, per the report.

What else: The townhome and condominium market saw some movement this past month as well. There were 569 properties listed, representing a 4.2% increase from the 546 units last February. The lease price also dropped by 3.6%, and the days on market increased to 56 days, up from 52 the previous February, per the report.
