New Braunfels allocates $95.63K for right-of-way acquisition services

New Braunfels City Council approved an expenditure of $95,635 on Sept. 28 to engineering firm Cobb, Fendley & Associates for right-of-way, or ROW, acquisition services for the Conrads Lane Improvements Project.

What you need to know: The voter-approved 2023 bond project requires the city to acquire ROW and temporary construction easements from 13 parcels of land. The city issued an on-call contract with Cobb, Fendley & Associates in January 2024 to provide ROW and acquisition services. The approved expenditure will cover the firm’s professional services and “pass-through” expenses for appraisal-related services, agenda documents state.

Also on the agenda: City Council also approved an expenditure of up to $150,000 to acquire ROW and easements for the project on Sept. 28. The funds will also be used on any damages for improvements affected by the acquisition, according to agenda documents.

Funding for the acquisition of ROW, easements and consultant fees is incorporated into the project’s budget.

Roxie's serves up Southern staples with nostalgic style in Buda

Salt Lick BBQ owner Scott Roberts grew up eating at his grandma Roxie’s house on Sundays after church. The Southern comfort eatery, named after Roberts' grandmother, honors her and her legacy of home cooking in Hays County.

"I was trying to recreate that experience of going to her house and having a meal," Roberts said.

What's on the menu: The menu at Roxie's features a variety of starters, sandwiches and entrees, from deviled eggs to fried chicken.

For those interested in a family-style meal, Roxie’s offers “The Experience,” which is designed for sharing

In their own words: "One of the best memories I have [at Roxie's] is the first batch of biscuits that came out of the oven and they were correct," Roberts said. "They had risen up, they were the perfect color ... it was all there ... she did not write any of the recipes down, so we spent a long time perfecting them."

COTA sets sights on water park, resort

After COTALAND officials debuted more than 30 rides and attractions for people of all ages during events Sept. 26-27, officials are looking ahead to a planned water park and on-site resort as part of Circuit of the Americas' push to grow its year-round offerings.

Zooming in: To fund the next phase, COTA officials entered into a partnership with investment firm Carlyle, according to an Aug. 24 announcement.

The financing amount was not disclosed; however, officials noted in the release that the partnership will not change COTA’s ownership structure and the venue will remain locally owned and operated.

The background: The idea for a water park has been floated before, with COTA Chairman Bobby Epstein telling Community Impact in 2025 that the project could follow COTALAND if demand supported further expansion.

The Carlyle agreement now brings financial backing to that plan.
