The Naveen Jindal School of Management will unveil its third building at the University of Texas at Dallas this fall, adding over 130,000 square feet to the business school’s campus. UT Dallas also plans to open a performance hall and a new Student Success Center-Student Union in spring 2027.

The overview: Undergraduate enrollment at UT Dallas has grown by roughly 32% over the last decade, increasing the need for additional academic, cultural and community spaces on campus, said Jeremy Head, associate vice president for facilities management.

The new Charles and Nancy Davidson Building is the third building Dean Hasan Pirkul has seen constructed for the business school in his 31-year tenure, he said. The Jindal School saw “huge influxes of students” following the COVID-19 pandemic, Pirkul said, sparking the need for the additional building.

Original ChopShop will open in Richardson’s CityLine Market on Sept. 23.

The details: The restaurant serves a variety of protein bowls, salads, sandwiches and all-day breakfast, as well as fresh juices and protein shakes. Original ChopShop will open at 10 a.m. on Sept 23, and the first 50 guests in line will receive a branded tote bag with an entrée purchase, per a release from the company.

Lite-On manufacturing facility in McKinney: Lite-On Technology Corp., a Taiwan-based manufacturing company that specializes in semiconductor components, is moving into an existing warehouse facility in McKinney, per a TDLR filing. The move will bring at least 600 jobs to the city, per previous reporting.

As drought conditions increase the risk of wildfires, Denton and Collin County residents will see restrictions on outdoor burning.

In a nutshell: Both counties are under a mandatory burn ban as of Aug. 25, according to local officials.

What you need to know: The mandatory burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning, and hot work like welding is subject to restrictions, per the release.

The conditions: Aug. 30 marks the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s 46th day with only trace amounts of rain, based on readings from the official climate site at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The streak is tied for the area’s tenth longest stretch of consecutive days without measurable precipitation on record, per the National Weather Service.

The Crow Museum of Asian Art, located at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, debuted two new exhibits this fall.

The details: “Unseen Worlds: Southeast Asian Textiles from the Spancake Collection” opened Aug. 22 and will run through June 20, 2027. The exhibit brings together roughly 150 artifacts, including textiles, jewelry and tattoo implements, from Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and other areas of Southeast Asia.

Multimedia exhibition “The Hedge of Halomancy” combines moving images, poetry and music to explore the history of the Inland Customs Line, a part of British colonial infrastructure in India. The immersive exhibit opened Aug. 29 and will run until Feb. 7, 2027.
