3 Lone Star College System board positions up for election in November

Three Lone Star College System seats are slated to go before voters in November after the college system's trustees called the election during the June 4 board meeting.

The gist: LSCS trustees for Districts 3, 4 and 9 are scheduled to be up for election Nov. 3, according to June 4 meeting documents for the college system. Trustee terms last six years for LSCS.

According to the LSCS website, the trustees up for election in November are:

  • Board Secretary Iesheia Wilson for District 3
  • Art Murillo for District 4
  • Jim Cain for District 9

How it works: LSCS trustee districts cover different geographic locations, according to the LSCS website.
  • District 3 covers parts of south-central Cy-Fair and northwest portions of central Houston
  • District 4 includes portions of north-central Houston
  • District 9 covers pieces of Tomball, north Klein and Cypress

Vintage inspired pizzeria Galaxy Pizza opening in Spring

Neighborhood-style pizza spot with vintage aesthetics, Galaxy Pizza opens June 6 off of Louetta Road in Spring, officials confirmed.

What's special about it?: The 1,800-square-foot space was founded by Anthony Calleo and designed by artist Brian Dibala to foster a nostalgic feel inspired by American pizzerias.

Galaxy pizza will feature a hybrid pizza dough recipe that combines Detroit-style dough with Neo-Neapolitan techniques.

According to their menu, their pizza are available in 12 inches, 14 inches and 16 inches with options including, but are not limited to:

  • Pepperonius Maximus: three kinds of pepperoni, three layers and extra cheese

  • Tom Selleck: bacon, ham, pepperoni strips and pineapple

  • Salad Days: spinach, tomato, garlic, feta and herb shake

  • That Guy!: Italian sausage, bell peppers, onions and feta

  • Veg-O-Max: mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, garlic, banana peppers, olives and feta

Galaxy Pizza also offers subs, salads, and various snacks, and is open 11a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Monday.

Houston airports open some restrooms as $30M renovations continue

Restrooms have begun to reopen at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport as part of a $30 million project, according to a news release from Houston Airports.

The openings are a part of the multiyear initiative—which sparked from a challenge by Houston Mayor John Whitmire in 2024—to modernize the approximately 20-year-old restroom facilities of both of Houston’s airports, per the release.

What's changed: In the first five months of this year, restrooms near IAH gates A12, A25 and D7 as well as Hobby gates 28-32, per the release. Renovated restrooms in Terminal A baggage claim at IAH are expected to open before the summer.

Restroom renovations include:

  • Expanded stalls to accommodate carry-on luggage
  • Improved Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility
  • New flooring, wall finishes and modern lighting
  • Upgraded fixtures for durability and cleanliness
  • Smart technology to alert staff of bathroom needs

What’s next: The renovations are set to continue in phases through 2027 so bathrooms can still be used by travelers, per the release.

Latin-owned Eden Coffee & Tea to open in Jersey Village area

With plans to open on Jones Road by the end of June, Eden Coffee & Tea officials said their vision is to create a space where people can connect, work, study and enjoy handcrafted beverages in a welcoming atmosphere.

Per officials, guests can expect espresso based drinks including flavored lattes, cold brews, teas, refreshers and matcha. The coffee shop also plans to offer pastries and light food options.

Molina’s Cantina to celebrate 85th anniversary

Tex-Mex restaurant Molina’s Cantina will celebrate its 85th anniversary June 12.

To celebrate, each of its three locations will host celebrations with anniversary fiestas June 11-13, once-a-week summer deals and a look back at the family, staff and dishes that shaped the restaurant.
