City of Plano completes purchase process for 3 Plano ISD campuses

Three former Plano ISD campuses are in the final step of the purchasing process with the city of Plano.

The gist: Property ownership for the former Davis Elementary officially transferred to the city April 22 and for the former Armstrong Middle on May 6, Plano Director of Planning Christina Day said during a presentation at a joint meeting between the city of Plano and Plano ISD on April 30.

Property ownership for the former Forman Elementary will officially be transferred May 27, Day said.

Desperados now offers Tex-Mex cuisine in Plano

The Plano location for the Dallas-based restaurant Desperados opened in April.

What they offer: Desperados serves a variety of tacos from shrimp and fish to brisket and grilled beef.

Other dishes include flautas, chili relleno and enchiladas according to its menu.

Texas Health Community Resource Center expands services, hours to serve Collin County residents

As it nears its one-year anniversary, the Texas Health Community Resource Center in Allen has expanded its services and hours.

The center, which offers a six-month program with medical care and support for eligible Collin County residents with chronic conditions, opened in May 2025.

The setup: The resource center, located at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen, is an initiative of the Texas Health Community Hope program and is funded through the Texas Health Resources Foundation. More than 129 enrolled clients have been served, and more than 460 visits have been logged since the center’s opening, according to a Texas Health news release.

What’s new: The Texas Health Community Resource Center now offers evening hours each Wednesday, operating from noon to 8 p.m., in an effort to provide flexibility for clients who work during daytime hours, the release states. Through a partnership with the American Heart Association, the center’s new services include offering digital weight scales, blood pressure monitors and pill organizers for clients to support self-monitoring.

Q&A: John Cornyn and Ken Paxton face off in May Republican runoff for US Senate

On May 26, Texas Republican voters will choose their nominee for the U.S. Senate in a runoff election between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The big picture: The Republican race for U.S. Senate is one of several statewide contests that advanced to May runoffs after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary election.

Cornyn and Paxton were the two highest-performing candidates in the eight-way primary race, with Cornyn securing 42% of the vote to Paxton's 41%.

At the polls: Early voting in Texas' runoff elections runs from May 18-22, and runoff election day is May 26.

Looking ahead: The winner of the May 26 overtime round will face the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate—state Rep. James Talarico of Austin—in the November midterm election. Third-party and independent candidates may also appear on the November ballot, and the winner of that election will be sworn in to the U.S. Senate in January 2027.
