Grapevine’s Parks and Recreation department is planning to begin phase two of development on its 23-acre Settlers Park to increase accessibility, add paved paths, a kayak launch and finish the fishing pier.

The context

The $3.4 million phase 2 plan was approved during the council’s Sept. 1 2026 meeting and will take 10 months to a year to complete, Parks and Recreation director Trent Kelley said.

The timeline

The city must wait for approval from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department before beginning construction on phase two. The council-approved construction project was submitted to ensure it meets the requirements for the $1 million in grant funding.

Kelley said they hope to hear back with approval in September or October.

The Omaha Steaks retail store in Grapevine is open and offering meats, meals and sides to customers.

What they offer: The store sells flash-frozen steaks, burgers, seafood, chicken and pork as well as complete freezer-to-oven meals. It also offers sides and desserts.

While Omaha Steaks offers one- to three-day shipping in most areas, customers can now purchase products directly from the Grapevine location.

To honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11, several community members gathered in Grapevine and Southlake.

The specifics:

• Grapevine officials gathered at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial for a ceremony at 7:30 a.m. before embarking on the city’s first March 455, which honored the first responders killed Sept. 11, 2001.

• The Grapevine High School wrestling team held its 7th Annual 9/11 Tribute Stair Climb at 7:30 a.m. at Mustang Panther Stadium.

• Southlake officials issued a proclamation of remembrance and a first responder from New York spoke to those gathered.

The first public air taxi test in Texas debuted in Fort Worth Sept. 10 with an audience that included U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, Sen. Ted Cruz and numerous federal, state and regional leaders.

The takeaway: The Texas Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration, officially launched Project Nexus at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The project is a pilot program for electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOLs.

The initiative will bring together federal, state and regional transportation leaders with aviation manufacturers and operators to begin testing how advanced air mobility can be safely integrated into the nation’s transportation system, according to a news release.

“For those of y'all who are old enough to remember 'The Jetsons,' I remember flying cars and we’re at the verge of seeing flying cars,” Cruz said. “We’re at the verge of air taxis and drones and transportation being transformed.”
