Keller-based doctor details how personal journey led to direct primary care practice

Dr. Rami Turner uses her own medical journey experiences to help guide her practice, Devoted Direct Primary Care Family Medicine, a direct primary care office in Keller.

The overview: Direct primary care is a healthcare model where patients pay their primary care physician a flat, recurring monthly or annual membership fee directly, rather than billing insurance for every visit.

Turner said her path toward opening a practice that used direct primary care began when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune neuromuscular disease called Stiff Person Syndrome, or SPS.

Put in perspective: Turner said a lot of insurance companies would decline lab work, or she would have to jump through a lot of hoops to justify why it was needed. After research, Turner found a direct primary care option that is not mandated by insurance costs and approvals.

She launched her own direct primary care business, starting with telehealth visits. Turner spends at least 30 minutes with a patient and try to find out issues they are experiencing.

East-West Connector at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport opens

A 1.65-mile stretch of road within the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport campus opened June 12.

The $30.8 million East-West Connector was first envisioned nearly 20 years ago to connect transportation in the airport’s southern corridor, according to a news release.

The details: The roadway extends from Rental Car Drive to the Harwood Drive/SH 360 intersection and will connect drivers to the Southgate Plaza, near Terminal E and the under-construction Terminal F.

The project was funded through federal transportation programs and administered by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which provided approximately 80% of the funding. There was a funding agreement between DFW Airport and the Texas Department of Transportation Fort Worth District for the remaining 20%.

Also of note: Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating Inc. was the contractor for the project, according to previous reporting.
