Tahitian Drive traffic delays could wrap up early

Motorists along Tahitian Drive should see construction-related delays end sooner than expected as Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s power line upgrade enters its final phase.

In a nutshell: Work began May 26 between Kaanapali Lane and Riverside Drive. Originally expected to finish Aug. 7, the project is now scheduled for completion by the end of July.

Will Holford, Bluebonnet’s manager of public affairs, said the upgrades will increase the electric distribution line’s capacity as demand continues to grow.

What they're doing: Crews have installed new poles and begun pulling larger electric wires. Remaining work includes finishing the wire installation, preparing equipment and transferring members to the upgraded line.

What drivers should know: The narrow, hilly roads require temporary single-lane closures in active construction zones, Holford said. Closures are expected from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday until work is complete. Planned outages may also be necessary.
