$117M Japanese Miyako Hybrid Hotel begins construction in north Plano

A 350,000-square-foot Japanese luxury hotel set for northwest Plano is one step closer to welcoming guests.

The details: Construction on the upcoming Miyako Hybrid Hotel near the former JCPenney headquarters began on Oct. 15. The hotel, which will be Kintetsu Group Holdings’s third in the United States, is projected to open in fall 2027. The 12-story luxury hotel is expected to feature 217 rooms, a Texas-style rooftop bar and a traditional Japanese restaurant, according to a company news release.

Zooming in: Takashi Wakai, president of Kintetsu Group Holdings, said the company chose Plano because of the city’s recent growth and development, particularly as Plano is home to many corporate headquarters and Japanese companies, including Toyota Motor North America and NTT Data.

Quote of note: “I’m confident the construction of [the] hotel in Plano will further strengthen the economic ties between Japan and to Texas, and Plano in particular,” Consul General of Japan in Houston Zentaro Naganuma said.

Harissa Mediterranean now open in north Plano

Harissa Mediterranean has opened its doors at Lakeside Market in Plano.

The details: The new restaurant is owned and operated by brother and sister Rima and Jimmy Sejdini, Collin County locals who grew up in the restaurant business. Rima Sejdini said the pair envisioned Harissa as a Mediterranean-fusion concept inspired by flavors and dishes throughout the region. 

What they offer: Harissa Mediterranean offers a variety of pasta, flatbreads and kabobs, with all sauces made from scratch in-house. Rima Sejdini said they also offer freshly baked pita bread and a full-service bar featuring house cocktails, Turkish coffee and espresso.

Plano International Festival set for Oct. 18

The annual Plano International Festival will decorate Haggard Park and the Courtyard Theater with a wide variety of free activities, entertainment and services this weekend.

The event will be held on Oct. 18 and will feature food trucks, a heritage fashion show, cultural booths and much more, according to a news release from the city of Plano.

What to expect: Among the food offerings available at the festival will be Korean bibimbap, Japanese teriyaki dishes, Thai fried rice and Mexican street food. Additionally, the event will feature cultural booths where visitors can browse and purchase artifacts from around the world.

The former owners of Morning Edition Cafe in Flower Mound have opened Daytrip Diner in Grapevine, moving into the former location of Waffle Way.

Daytrip Diner is open daily from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The breakfast menu includes items such as corned beef hash and eggs, chicken fried steak and eggs, pancake, skillets and more. For lunch, offerings include salads, sandwiches and cheeseburgers.

Enea's Pizzeria is now serving New York-style pizza in Roanoke.

The pizzeria serves big slices made with fresh ingredients and hand-tossed dough, owner Edmond Gjekaj saidPizza options include BBQ chicken, margarita, eggplant pizza, veggie, meat lovers and alfredo.

The restaurant also serves calzones, garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, wings, salads, sub sandwiches and chocolate cannoli, according to its website.
