Luxury takes root in Houston

Luxury is becoming harder to miss in Houston, where global retailers are opening flagship stores, expanding existing boutiques and investing in some of the city’s most affluent neighborhoods.

What's happening: At River Oaks District, more than a dozen luxury retailers have opened or announced new locations in the past two to three years, while established brands are expanding their footprints.

Developers are also adding luxury residences, hotels and mixed-use projects across the Inner Loop, creating a growing market of high-end retail, real estate and hospitality.

These investments come as the area in recent years has seen a boom in home sales that eclipse the $1 million mark—and are supported by many growing industries in Houston that are contributing to the economic base of the area.

Looking ahead: Luxury retailers and developers continue to announce new projects and move forward across Houston, with several concentrated in the River Oaks and Post Oak areas. Experts expect the city to become a major hub for luxury retail in the near future.
