The annual Wreaths Across America event will take place Dec. 14 at New Montgomery Cemetery, with the Montgomery Freedom chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution also participating.
The overview: Wreaths Across America is a national event that seeks to honor fallen veterans on the holidays with wreaths at their grave sites. According to its website, the ceremony is held at more than 4,900 different locations throughout all 50 states.
What to expect: The ceremony is free and open to the public, SAR Montgomery Freedom chapter President David Hamaker said. SAR chapter members will be on-site dressed in colorful colonial gear, as many members can trace their ties back to the American Revolution. SAR members will place the ribboned wreaths on the graves of fallen military soldiers and say their names to honor and remember them.
