Children’s Lighthouse opens New Braunfels location

Children’s Lighthouse opened a new location at 726 Barbarosa Road in New Braunfels on March 23.

The gist: The values-based, early childhood education school is owned and operated by husband and wife duo Ashley and Ryan Hempton.

Children’s Lighthouse of New Braunfels offers curriculum for infants and toddlers. The school also offers prekindergarten programs and before- and after-school care for school-age children, according to the release.

Quote of note: Ryan Hempton said they were proud to open Children’s Lighthouse in New Braunfels and welcome local families to the school.

“As parents ourselves, we know how important it is to find a place where your child feels safe, encouraged and excited to learn each day. Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where children build confidence, develop strong character and form a lifelong love of learning,” Ryan Hempton said in the release.

Crunch Fitness to open this fall in former Gold’s Gym in New Braunfels

A nationwide gym chain is continuing to expand its territory in Central Texas with the planned opening of a new location in New Braunfels later this year.

In case you missed it: Crunch Fitness is planning to open soon in New Braunfels inside the MarketPlace shopping center at 651 N. Business I-35, Ste. 900.

Representatives from Crunch Fitness told Community Impact they’re working to open this fall, although changes can be expected due to the construction process.

Take a closer look: The gym is taking up residence in the former Gold’s Gym, which is now permanently closed to the public, according to its website.

This new location is one of several owned by the franchisee conglomerate The Undefeated Tribe, a group led by owner Tony Hartl and Executive Director Reed Traphagan, according to their website.

The company currently owns 41 gyms across the United States and has opened several Crunch locations in the local area within the last year, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

San Marcos sandwich shop announces leadership change, temporary closure

The owner of a long-standing sandwich shop in San Marcos announced a “change in leadership” in a Facebook post made April 19.

What you need to know: Alvin Ord’s Sandwich Shop has been in business for over four decades. Bill Martin took ownership of the spot in 1983 and has run it since, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

A sign posted on the door of the eatery announced its temporary closure, which will last an unknown amount of time.

The shop will undergo a deep clean and modernization of facilities, standards and culture, according to the post.

“We are committed to honoring the sandwich you love while building a respectful, positive and top-tier environment for our team and our town,” Martin said.

Central Texas partnership streamlines blood distribution to large-scale incidents

Austin-Travis County EMS has partnered with We Are Blood to implement a blood distribution plan for mass casualty incidents. The plan strengthens the region’s ability to respond to large-scale emergencies and helps patients receive transfusions quickly.

At a glance: The Mass Casualty Incident Whole Blood Deployment Plan is intended to quicken emergency response in Central Texas by optimizing the deployment of blood units to major incidents, according to an ATCEMS news release.

The plan outlines four distinct steps in the coordination of whole blood deployment to mass casualty incidents in the region:

  • Activation: ATCEMS notifies We Are Blood of the mass casualty incident and the estimated amount of blood needed.
  • Rapid Staging: We Are Blood prepares units of blood and pre-packed supplies for transfusions.
  • Field Deployment: ATCEMS personnel get the units from the blood bank.
  • On-Scene Management: A dedicated blood officer oversees blood and equipment distribution at the scene.
