Biopharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb has selected Generation Park for its new $2.3 billion manufacturing campus, officials announced in an Aug. 10 news release. The project is expected to bring nearly 500 jobs to the Lake Houston area.

The big picture: The state-of-the-art 600,000-square-foot campus will enable BMS to manufacture multiple types of medicines, such as small molecules, biologics and antibody-drug conjugates. Per the release, the campus will be modular and multimodal to support long-term growth and allow the campus to evolve as needed.

The impact: Jobs created by the new campus will include operations technicians, production specialists, maintenance and engineering professionals, quality control and assurance experts, and site leadership and administration. Per the release, BMS also expects to create approximately 2,000 construction and other indirect jobs between 2027-30, while the facility is built.

Some context: Community Impact first reported BMS was considering Generation Park for a new manufacturing campus in May.

In honor of the city of Humble’s Founder’s Day and the Humble Museum’s 50th anniversary, a joint celebration will be held Sept. 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Some context: In 2025, Humble City Council officially established Sept. 14 as the city’s Founder’s Day, as previously reported by Community Impact. This year’s celebration marks the first event to honor the newly created holiday, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Humble Museum. The city of Humble was founded in 1886 by Pleasant Humble, while the Humble Museum was established in July 1976.

The celebration: Throughout the celebration, attendees will be able to tour the Humble Museum, view new displays in the lobby of the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center and visit with local historical groups. In the green space near both buildings, attendees will also be able to view classic cars, purchase food from food trucks and listen to live music.

Festivities will also include a scavenger hunt, which will run from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., and teams must register by Aug. 24.

Harris County is facing the task of balancing a $178 million shortfall going into fiscal year 2026-27—amid several requests that would require millions more in funding.

The big picture: According to the latest update from the county’s office of budget management, Harris County is facing a $178 million shortfall in the FY 2026-27 budget. Daniel Ramos, executive director of the Harris County Office of Management and Budget, said the county has faced a roughly $150 million shortfall annually in recent years.

The discussion: Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis expressed heavy concern regarding how the county would ultimately address the shortfall, which has become a repetitive issue.

“When I was a banker, if you have a shortfall five years in a row, ... that's a structural deficit,” Ellis said.
”We’re about out of smoke and mirrors.”

Another thing: Commissioners also authorized raises for all eight elected constables, the district attorney, county attorney, district clerk, county clerk and tax assessor-collector which brought all positions to the same salary of $305,000 annually.

Travelers flying through Houston's William P. Hobby Airport now have a new off-airport parking option with the opening of Hobby Airport Parking on July 13, according to a news release from Paquin Public Relations.

What you need to know: Located 2.5 miles from the airport, the new facility offers uncovered and covered parking, along with complimentary shuttle service, according to the release.
