Construction set to begin on Kyle sidewalk project near school campus

A two-phase, priority road and sidewalk reconstruction project is set to begin construction next week in Kyle, increasing pedestrian safety.

The full story: City of Kyle Public Works crews will begin work on the Blanco Street Sidewalk Project’s first phase the week of March 16, installing interim safety improvements.

Approximately 800 feet of Blanco Street, between Veterans Drive and North Meyer Street, will be temporarily transitioned into a one-way road moving eastbound. The current westbound lane will be blocked off and converted into a pedestrian passageway.

The development of a passageway along the road will provide a protected space to families and students walking or riding to Kyle Elementary School, according to the city of Kyle.

The majority of Blanco Street will be closed to through traffic during the week while crews work. City staff members will be present to help residents access homes and driveways.

Diving deeper: Crews will develop a new sidewalk in Phase 2 of the project.

Blanco Street will revert to a two-way road following the sidewalk’s completion.
