San Antonio to build Maverick Creek Greenway Trail extension along Babcock Road

The San Antonio City Council on March 19 awarded Abelar Inc., a trail project management company, with a greenway trail extension project to build a 0.73-mile portion of the Maverick Creek Greenway, stretching from UTSA Boulevard to Loop 1604.

The gist: Located in District 8 and situated along Babcock Road, the project is part of the Leon Creek Greenway System and includes building a 10-foot-wide shared-use greenway trail that extends the Maverick Creek Greenway Trail, according to city documents. The trail extension will also feature an 8-foot connector to UTSA and a direct connection to the Texas Department of Transportation shared-use path along Loop 1604.

The project is estimated to cost about $2.6 million. Construction is estimated to take approximately a year to be completed.

Austin-based Pinthouse Pizza opens first San Antonio location this week

An Austin-based brewpub is beginning the first stages of expansion in the state with a new location opening in San Antonio.

The big picture: Pinthouse Pizza—located at 5534 N. Loop 1604 W. in northwest San Antonio—officially opened on March 23, according to a news release from the company.

Kyle Detrick, the President of Retail at Pinthouse, said they have been discussing an expansion to San Antonio for some time.

“Opening in San Antonio is a huge milestone for our team and something we’ve dreamed about for years,” he said in the news release.

On the menu: Pinthouse Pizza is known for a wide range of craft beers, pizzas and sandwiches, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

The local chain has four additional locations in the Austin area, including the company’s brewing facility, according to their website.

Bulverde Road Phase 2 project: Part of San Antonio’s 2022-27 bond program, Phase 2 will construct improvements on Bulverde Road from Green Spring Drive to Redland Road. Currently in the design phase, the project will widen the road to 86 feet, expand it to four lanes, add a center turn lane, and add a sidewalk and a shared-use path, as well as drainage improvements and utility adjustments. 

New Braunfels
AAMPO Citywide Pedestrian Improvements, Phase 1: Improvements will be made to sidewalks and shared-use paths at five locations throughout New Braunfels: Oak Run Parkway, Hinman Island Drive, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Area, Alves Lane and County Line Road, according to agenda documents. On Jan. 26, New Braunfels City Council approved a motion to begin the process to find contractors.

Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization requests public input for FY 2027-2030 projects

The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization invites the public to attend a series of public meetings to review and comment on the draft fiscal year 2027-2030 Transportation Improvement Program. According to a March 17 news release, this draft outlines transportation projects and programs totaling more than $1.9 billion, scheduled to move into construction or implementation over the next four years.

The details: A total of six meetings are scheduled in different regions of the Greater San Antonio area. Planned meetings include:

  • Bexar County (Northeast): March 18; Northeast Senior Center, 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio
  • Comal County: March 19; New Braunfels City Hall, Tejas Room, 550 Landa St., New Braunfels
  • Guadalupe County: March 23; Seguin Public Library, 313 West Nolte St., Seguin
  • Bexar County (Southwest): March 24; Boeing Center at Tech Port, 3331 General Hudnell Drive, San Antonio
  • Medina County: March 26; Castroville Elementary, 1000 Madrid St., Castroville
  • Kendall County: March 30; Patrick Heath Public Library, 451 N. Main St., Boerne
