The Kyle City Council requested staff re-evaluate 12 proposed intersections where roundabouts are recommended on July 7.

During an Aug. 18 meeting, the council approved a $478,638.51 task order to conduct a traffic study at each intersection. The study will analyze operational and safety aspects and provide new design recommendations for each location, according to agenda documents.

The gist: The traffic studies at each intersection will consist of data collection and Intersection Alternative Analysis. The task order will be broken into two phases, according to agenda documents.

City staff will request feedback and direction from the council based on Phase 1 results before beginning Phase 2. Staff does not expect more than four intersections will need a Phase 2 analysis, according to agenda documents.

The project’s second phase will provide a more detailed cost impact breakdown.

Next steps: The first priority set will be brought before the council in late September or early October. The full task order is expected to be complete before the end of the year.

The Tanger Outlets in San Marcos will soon add a new beauty supply store, giving customers a new place to buy hair and skincare products.

The gist: The city’s second Sally Beauty Supply location will be located in the outlet mall. Renovations to the business’s new 2,837-square-foot space are slated to begin on Oct. 7 and be completed on Nov. 7, according to a filing from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.

San Marcos features one other business location approximately two miles from the outlet mall.

What they offer: The store sells a variety of beauty products, including hair dye, hair care essentials, hair straighteners and curling wands, nail polish, acrylic nails, makeup, skin care, waxing products and fragrances.

Community Impact compiled compensation for superintendents, teachers, and staff at 15 public school districts in the Austin area to compare trends across the metro as budgeting season wraps up for most districts.

According to 2025-26 school-year data from the Texas Education Agency, Lake Travis ISD had the highest-paid superintendent at $483,116, while Pflugerville ISD had the highest average teacher pay at $69,917.

A data center in Cedar Creek, a new building for the Austin Community College Hays Campus and renovations at Liberal Arts and Science Academy are among the five most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. EDCAUS ($700 million): A data center campus is being developed in Bastrop County.

2. Austin Community College - Hays Campus ($101 million): A three-story Health Sciences instructional building with classrooms, administrative offices, a testing center, vocational training, instructional spaces, and laboratories will be constructed at the Austin Community College Hays Campus.

3. LASA High School ($21.3 million): Renovations will take place at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin.

4. Bartlett's South ($4 million): A new location of Bartlett’s steakhouse is coming to Austin.

5. Smart Stop ($1.5 million): A new one-story convenience store and two future tenant spaces are coming to Pflugerville.

This November, Libertarian Ted Brown, Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are running to be Texas' next U.S. senator.

The overview: Each state has two U.S. senators serving staggered terms, with Ted Cruz and John Cornyn currently representing Texas. Cornyn ran for reelection but lost his primary race, and the winner of the November election will replace him in January.

Paxton advanced to the general election after beating Cornyn in a primary runoff, while Talarico beat two other contenders in the Democratic primary, Community Impact reported. Brown was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

At the polls: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 for dozens of statewide and local races. Election Day is Nov. 3.
