Montgomery County Precinct 3 launches traffic signal modernization project

Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler announced an upgrade plan for signalized intersections in south Montgomery County to improve safety and speed for local roadway users, according to a news release.

The modernization project will consist of replacing older traffic light technology with advanced equipment designed by Miovision to more accurately respond to everyday traffic demands.

The local impact: The Woodlands Parkway will be the first thoroughfare to have these upgrades installed, with all signalized intersections in Montgomery County eventually being redone with the new technology, according to the release.

About the project: Here’s what improvements local residents can expect to see:

  • Adaptive traffic signals and video detection
  • Enhanced signal responsiveness
  • Remote system management
  • Long-term transportation planning through data collection

Tamina Road project hits completion delay, WMPID officials say

While work on Tamina Road improvements between FM 1488 and FM 2978 is in the final phases, there will be a slight delay before the project is fully completed, officials said.

The takeaway: This delay is because of recently flagged sections of the roadway not meeting county paving standards, Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District confirmed in its latest project update June 1.

What’s changed: WMPID confirmed in its update that the resurfacing of the final road will push back the scheduled installation of median landscaping, delaying planting and corridor beautification until sometime this fall.

The YMCA of Greater Houston has unveiled its scheduled summer programs to promote active lifestyles among children and teens and provide access to water safety education, according to a news release.

What you need to know: Throughout the summer, the organization’s programming will include:

  • Camp Cullen: The outdoor camp experience aims toward confidence building and soft skill development for youth through water sports, adventure courses, horseback riding and other activities.
  • Day camps: Engagement-driven experiences utilize science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning; creative arts; sports; water safety education; and outdoor recreation to encourage youth productivity.
