What to know about Flower Mound, Highland Village, Argyle facility closures, trash delays for Jan. 26

Because of inclement weather from Winter Storm Fern, facilities in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Argyle will be closed Jan. 26. Trash collections will also be delayed for some residents.

What's happening? All Flower Mound facilities, such as the Community Activity Center and Town Hall, will be closed Jan. 26, according to a town news release.
Trash and recycling collections for Flower Mound residents will also be delayed by one day until all routes are completed Jan. 31, per the news release. Collections scheduled Jan. 26 will now take place Jan. 27, and so on.

Highland Village's city offices will be closed Jan. 26 and reopen at noon Jan. 27, according to a news release. Trash and recycling services scheduled Jan. 26 will be delayed one day.

Argyle Town Hall will be closed for on-site business Jan. 26, according to a news release.

The business offers mobility devices like wheelchairs, canes and walkers, powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters and hospital beds. The company also provides home-installation for mobility equipment like grab bars and offers short and long-term rentals for mobility gear.

Jetset Pilates

Renovations for a new Pilates studio are expected to begin next month, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Jetset Pilates offers classes that include a selection of Pilates-based workouts with strength and cardio elements, according to its website.
The renovations for the 1,780-square-foot studio have an estimated cost of $300,000, per the filing. Construction is expected to start Feb. 9 and be completed May 1.

Lewisville ISD campuses and facilities will remain closed though Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to weather conditions from Winter Storm Fern. All extracurricular activities and campus events scheduled Jan. 27 will be cancelled or rescheduled, according to the district's website.

Argyle ISD schools will also be closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities are cancelled. Previously scheduled basketball and soccer games will be rescheduled, according to AISD's website.

Denton ISD will be closed through Tuesday, Jan. 27, officials posted on the district's website.

What you need to know: All before- and after-school activities have been cancelled, and district officials will continue to monitor weather conditions from Winter Storm Fern. The next update will address school openings and the activities schedule for Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Dallas-Fort Worth under Extreme Cold Warning until Tuesday morning

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is under an Extreme Cold Warning from Sunday night until 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

What's happening: Temperature highs are estimated to remain in the 20s with the lows in the teens and single digits through Tuesday morning, according to the NWS's Fort Worth/Dallas office. Wind chills will range from -10 to 0 degrees Monday morning in DFW.

Wind chill values will make "Feels Like" temps as cold as -10 degrees with low temperatures ranging from -1 to 14 degrees across North Texas, per the NWS. The extreme temperatures create hazards for hypothermia and frozen pipes.

Dallas-Fort Worth area school districts announce closures due to Winter Storm Fern

Following winter weather and precipitation blanketing the North Texas area, several Dallas-Fort Worth school districts announced additional school closures for Jan. 27.

The specifics: As of Jan. 25, the following school districts and colleges have announced that they will be closed Tuesday:

  • Allen ISD
  • Argyle ISD
  • Carroll ISD
  • Denton ISD
  • Frisco ISD

 
On The Transportation Beat
Winter Storm Fern continues to hamper flights at Dallas Love Field, DFW Airport

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field continue to see cancellations due to Winter Storm Fern.

Zooming in: According to Flightaware.com, more than 1,000 flights to or from the Dallas metro area were also on Jan. 25.
There are also cancellations already posted for Jan. 26.
As of 3:35 p.m, there have been 537 flights into DFW Airport and 518 flights out of DFW Airport canceled.
In terms of delays, 180 flights are arriving at DFW Airport and 184 flights are trying to depart. According to the website, the average departure delay is 43 minutes.
DFW Airport posted on its social media channel that it is clearing off roadways and taxiways.
The airport has more than:

  • 172 million square feet of pavement
  • 1,200 miles of roads
  • 140 bridges
Dallas Love Field has had 133 flights canceled from there and 127 flights into Love Field canceled.

Stay tuned: There are already more than 200 cancellations for Jan. 26.
