Plano City Council approved economic incentives for engineering and manufacturing companies at a meeting Aug. 24.

The gist: The city approved $225,000 for SPIARS Engineering to occupy 31,000 square-feet of office space along K Avenue. The company is expected to invest $3.6 million in property improvements by March 2027, per city documents.

One more thing: The city also approved a $300,000 incentive for Krypton Solutions LLC., a manufacturing company with ties to the medical, defense, aerospace, energy, telecommunications, semiconductor and industrial industries.

Collin County residents will see the same property tax rate for Collin College in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The gist: The college’s board of trustees unanimously approved a tax rate of $0.081220 per $100 valuation during an Aug. 25 board meeting. The college has maintained this tax rate since 2022, according to Collin County documents.

Diving deeper: The board also unanimously approved the college’s FY 2026-27 budget at the meeting. The budget outlines just over $455.4 million in revenue, including:

• $322.8 million in unrestricted funds
• $93.1 million in restricted funds
• $39.5 million in interfund transfers

McKinney resident Deanna Kuykendall will serve in the Place 8 seat on the Collin College Board of Trustees until the May 2027 election, according to an Aug. 26 news release from the college.

Kuykendall was appointed to the seat and sworn in at an Aug. 25 board meeting following an application process that was conducted to fill the vacant seat.

The details: Kuykendall is an Eastern New Mexico University graduate and currently serves as the director of government affairs for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

“We were fortunate to have an outstanding group of community members interested in serving Collin College,” board chair Jay Saad said in the release. “Deanna’s experience, leadership, and commitment to Collin County will be valuable assets to the Board.”

The context: The Place 8 seat became vacant following the retirement of J. Robert “Bob” Collins, a founding member of the Collin College Board of Trustees who served for 41 years, a May news release from the college states.
