Argyle ISD board requests missed school day waiver after Winter Storm Fern

Argyle officials approved a missed school day waiver request after five days of school and facility closures during Winter Storm Fern.

The request was approved at a regular board meeting Feb. 16.

The gist: The district is seeking permission from the Texas Education Agency to waive school days missed due to inclement weather, according to district documents.

AISD previously accounted for up to two bad-weather days when it approved its calendar for the 2025-26 school year, according to district documents.

Waivers can be requested due to weather, safety or health issues according to district documents. Assistant Superintendent Dawn Jordan said a total of three days would be waived by the state if approved.

Quote of note: “If TEA accepts those school day waivers, then we will not have to use bad weather days that are on the calendar,” Superintendent Courtney Carpenter said.
