Tomball ISD trustees are set to host their first budget workshop March 16, presented by Chief Financial Officer Zack Boles, according to the meeting agenda.

Two-minute impact: As previously reported by Community Impact, TISD approved a $230.3 million budget in June focused on boosting teacher pay due to state funding. Deputy Superintendent Amy Schindewolf will also be presenting TISD’s District of Innovation plan. In accordance with state law, the district's innovation plan renews every five years. According to its website, DOI plans allow the district to be exempt from certain requirements of the Texas Education Code.

What else: TISD trustees are also set to discuss approving multiple district purchases at their March 17 regular meeting, including:

• Student and staff technology devices for Tomball West High School
• Districtwide network infrastructure upgrades
• Gym floor replacements
• Interactive flat panels for the Creekside Park complex

On Jan. 26, Innersculpt Studio opened in Tomball. The fitness studio business offers reformer Pilates classes, small group sessions and private training.

Cancer Clinician and Translational Scientist Dr. Daniela Matei will become the next director of the Houston Methodist Dr. Mary and Ron Neal Cancer Center following a national search, Houston Methodist officials announced in a Feb. 27 news release.

The details: Currently chief of the Division of Reproductive Science in Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Matei is an expert in ovarian cancer treatment and research, per the release.

What they’re saying: Chang said Matei’s vision will “enhance the momentum of our research enterprise and support our shared goal of turning scientific innovation into real-world impact for patients.”

What’s next? Matei will begin her role as director in April, per the release.
