Richardson council approves $375K in arts grants for local organizations

Twenty-two arts organizations in Richardson are set to receive funding after City Council unanimously approved $375,000 in arts grants on Sept. 28.

The overview: Richardson awards arts grants annually from city’s hotel occupancy tax fund, said Assistant City Manager Michaela Dollar. The grants will be distributed to Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Theatre Centre, and several other music, theater and performing arts organizations.

Quote of note: “The evaluation criteria that the commission focuses on is the organization’s focus on Richardson and serving the Richardson residents,” Dollar said.

Creamwala to open flagship ice cream shop in Richardson

Creamwala is opening its first permanent storefront in Richardson’s upcoming Lala Market, per a social media announcement from the business.

The details: All ice cream will be made in-house at the flagship store, where customers will be able to purchase fresh scoops of ice cream, pints and merch.

Creamwala currently sells ice cream at Allen’s Sayfani Coffee House and at pop-up events around the metroplex.

City of Denton, DCTA launch park-and-ride service for Halloween events

With Halloween festivities beginning in Denton, the city partnered with the Denton County Transit Authority to create a park-and-ride option for visitors during the weekend events.

The details: Starting Oct. 3, visitors can use the ride share on Saturdays and Sundays to safely get around downtown Denton for Halloween activities, according to the city’s social media pages.

The ride-share option will run from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays. The ride shares will be available until Nov. 8.

The service will go from Golden Triangle Mall at 2001 I-35 E. and run to either the Oak/Oakland lot at 301 E. Oak St. or the city’s development services center at 401 N. Elm St.

What else: North Central Texas College also partnered with the city to provide public parking at 319 Sycamore St. during the following days and hours:

  • Thursdays: 5-8 p.m.

  • Fridays: 5-10 p.m.

  • Saturdays: 2-10 p.m.

  • Sundays: 2-10 p.m.
