Now open: Dripping Springs Sports Club Warehouse

Local owner and CEO Drew Rose opened a new sports facility this spring. The facility offers volleyball courts, basketball courts and a weight room. The warehouse is just a few miles down the road from the DSSC Flex facility that opened last fall.

Closings: Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room

The Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room in Dripping Springs is closing its doors after over a decade. The distillery in Buda will remain open, and the company will continue to attend local events in Austin, according to the website.

1. Hays CISD OKs preliminary budget decisions, $12M cuts: The proposed cuts include the loss of 125 positions and the suspension of 970 stipends, directly affecting more than 1,000 employees.

2. San Marcos CISD opens District 2 seat applications through April 20: The single-member District 2 seat on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees will soon be vacant, and community members now have the opportunity to submit an application to be appointed to fill the seat.

3. Dripping Springs ISD opens out-of-district transfer applications: Starting April 1, Texas families will be able to apply for an out-of-district transfer to Dripping Springs ISD.

Oak Knoll Flood Risk Reduction
Project: The project will improve the storm drain system in part of the Oak Knoll neighborhood to reduce the risk of flooding. 
Update: According to Austin Capital Delivery Services, crews will next install storm drains along Woodcrest Drive and Columbia Oaks Court, during which time a 24-hour flagger station on Columbia Oaks Drive and J. Gregg Cove will be set up to control traffic.

CARTS boosts metro-bound Bastrop County routes to cut traffic, emissions
Bastrop County commuters gained new transit options March 2 with the launch of two regional bus routes culminating in downtown Austin: one connecting Bastrop and Smithville, and the other connecting Georgetown and Round Rock. Riders can park at CARTS Park & Ride locations and take coach buses into Austin, offering an alternative to driving and downtown parking.

Chubby Cattle to bring all-you-can-eat barbecue to Barton Creek Square

Chubby Cattle, a Japanese-inspired, all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurant is coming to Barton Creek Square this summer, a media representative for the restaurant said.

On the menu: Chubby Cattle specializes in serving Wagyu barbecue, along with a variety of sushi and other sides included in the all-you-can-eat experience.

Diners can earn points and rewards through Chubby Cattle’s free membership club. There is also the option to “supercharge” a membership starting at $28 a year, allowing members to receive discounted pricing at each visit.

What else? Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings from March 2026 show another Chubby Cattle location is expected to open in San Antonio.

Chubby Cattle has locations across the country, with its first location opening in 2023 in Monterey Park, California.
