Switch to begin construction on 2nd data center this summer

Switch may soon begin constructing its second Round Rock data center, a new project filing shows.

In a nutshell: Project information filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows a second data center project from Switch, planned to be just east of the existing data center, could cost up to $20 million and take up about 72,600 square feet.

Remember this? The city of Round Rock approved a zoning request for this second data center project in 2024.

The Las Vegas-based company previously entered into an economic agreement with the city, requiring Switch to invest at least $80 million in real and personal property improvements by the end of 2026.

$4.4M in street maintenance projects set for some Round Rock residential areas

Several Round Rock residential areas will be the site of road maintenance projects for about five months this year, city officials said.

What you need to know: City officials moved forward with a $4.4 million contract with Lone Star Paving at an April Round Rock City Council meeting, as part of the city's regular street maintenance program.

Improvements are funded by the city's self-financed construction budget.

The details: Streets to receive maintenance—milling and new asphalt overlay, pavement patching as well as curb, sidewalk and driveway approach repairs—are located in the Chisholm Valley, Windy Park, Stone Oak and Indian Ridge neighborhoods.

County receives $5M federal grant for East WilCo Highway project

Williamson County received a $5 million grant in late April from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for its East WilCo Highway Southeast Loop Connection project, according to a county news release.

Learn more: The funds will aid the construction of 1.65 miles of East WilCo Highway, and be used for safety improvements at FM 1660 and FM 3349 as well as a new traffic signal.

The remainder of the $7 million project will be funded by the 2023 voter-approved Williamson County Road Bond.

About the project: The East Wilco Highway Southeast Loop Connection project is part of the greater East Wilco Highway Segment 2 project, which will construct a new road with a lane in each direction, as well as a center turn lane, between CR 137 and CR 404.

Engineering firm Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson created the project design, and the county has not yet selected a construction contractor. Construction on the project is anticipated to begin in May 2026 and be completed by the end of the year.
