San Marcos Price Center seeks supplies for pollinator garden

Hays County residents can help create a pollinator garden at the Price Center & Garden in San Marcos.

What’s happening? Following the center’s unveiling of a piece by local muralist Michelle Wilson in September, Price Center Chief Gardener Dianne Wassenich said the team was inspired to do more.

“Our front garden is such a draw for people, insects, and wildlife that we wanted to expand it with an even stronger focus on native species and pollinators in particular,” Price Center Executive Director Clay DeStefano said in a news release.

What’s needed? Officials are seeking the following supply donations, all of which are needed in large sizes, including:

  • Terracotta planters
  • Ceramic planters
  • Cement planters
  • Garden art
Those able to contribute can call 512-392-2900 or stop by the center at 222 W. San Antonio St., San Marcos.

Saté Texas champions Indonesian flavors in Round Rock

After years of selling Indonesian food at local food fairs and from a food truck, Eugene and Tina Villarreal recently marked one year operating Saté Texas at its brick-and-mortar location in Round Rock.

The restaurant specializes in Indonesian-style satay and grilled dishes influenced by Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern and Indian flavors. The Villarreals said the first year has brought both challenges and steady signs of growth.

“It’s very challenging,” Tina said. “A lot of people don’t really know what Indonesian cuisine is. They walk in, they look around, and they’re unsure what they’re going to get.”

Major airlines lock in new gates under Austin airport $5B expansion

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is moving forward with a $5 billion expansion aimed at easing congestion and improving the passenger experience.

What's happening: The project will add 32 new gates, including 26 tied to a new Concourse B, while Southwest Airlines plans to nearly double its presence at the airport with 18 additional gates and about 200 daily flights.

Zooming in: As part of the expansion, Southwest will relocate its command center and open a pilot and flight attendant base, bringing roughly 2,000 new jobs by 2027.

The airport is also building a six-gate Concourse M to provide flexibility during construction, schedule changes, delays and diverted flights.

Looking ahead: Additional projects include expanded parking, centralized TSA checkpoints and improvements to baggage handling, as well as ongoing efforts to extend Austin’s light rail to the airport.

Officials say these projects will help ABIA handle growth while enhancing convenience for travelers.
