Short-term rentals in Richardson will soon have to be at least 500 feet apart and property owners will pay a higher annual fee to the city as Richardson plans to adopt new regulations. Council is set to officially approve the regulations Aug. 10.

The big picture: Richardson began a 90-day prohibition on new short-term rental registrations at the end of May after residents voiced concerns about trash, parking, noise and safety issues caused by STRs in their neighborhoods. The temporary prohibition on new registrations allowed the city time to implement new software to collect data on registered and unregistered STRs in Richardson.

The details: The 500-foot distance means that STRs will have to be about seven houses apart, depending on house size.

Owners of short-term rental properties are required to register the property with the city and pay an annual fee, but some operate without registering. The regulations will apply to currently unregistered STRs and all future rental properties, while existing, registered STRs will not be impacted.

Richardson Indian restaurant Bombay Republic has rebranded as Fusion Republic Indian Kitchen & Bar, co-owner Karthik Sridharan confirmed over email.

The details: Along with the name change, Fusion Republic also updated its menu, adding salmon, lobsters, chicken platters, bao, burgers and sandwiches, which Sridharan said gives a “fusion twist to the traditional Indian cuisine.” The menu also includes new cocktails and mocktails.

Sridharan said the restaurant retains the same chefs, owners and servers, as well as its lunch buffet and a la carte dinner.

North Texas Performing Arts is relocating its headquarters from the Willow Bend Mall to 2819 W. 15th St., according to a news release from the organization.

What’s happening: The new complex will feature four performance stages, six dance and rehearsal studios, private practice rooms, a set-build shop and additional spaces “supporting NTPA’s theatre, education and community programs,” the release states.

The space used to house Holiday Warehouse, which closed last March.

Quote of note: “This is an exciting and transformational moment for North Texas Performing Arts,” NTPA CEO Darrell Rodenbaugh said in the release. “We have a vision that everyone should have the profound opportunity of taking the stage, and so it is critical that we preserve our mission.”

3400 at Cityline renovation
A corporate office space at 3400 at Cityline, an office park, will undergo about $12 million in renovations, according to TDLR documents. The documents state the project will cover about 36,000 square feet and cost $12 million.
