Three candidates are running in the contested race for Position 3 on The Woodlands Township board of directors for the Nov. 3 election. According to the township website, this is the only contested race in the election.

The candidates running for the two-year seat are:

• Nick Tran

• Lisa Gilmore

None of the candidates is an incumbent. Early voting begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website. On Election Day, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Electric mobility retailer Arride Bikes opened its second area showroom in The Woodlands this summer, according to a news release. The new shop is located inside Outlaw Archery at 26815 I-45. Arride Bikes, which also has a location in Tomball, offers electric bicycles, e-moto bikes, scooters, ATVs, local warranties, maintenance and repair services.

The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra is planning a free "Dead Symphony" concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Sept. 29, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. The concert features a classic rock theme.

What to expect: The performance includes the music of the Grateful Dead, a tribute to the late Bob Weir and arrangements of music by other artists who got their start in the 1960s and performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival, such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Jefferson Airplane. The orchestra features artistic director Darryl Bayer with guest conductor and composer Lee Johnson.

The Texas Department of Transportation is proposing a $209 million Grand Parkway widening project through the Spring area in Harris and Montgomery counties. Funded by toll revenue, the project would widen a 6.73-mile section of the roadway to maintain stable traffic flow and vehicle speed. Public feedback on the proposal is being collected through Oct. 9.

The plan: The project is needed because State Highway 99 is unable to maintain a minimum traffic flow level of C. No additional right-of-way is needed for the project, which proposes:

• Three 12-foot-wide main lanes in each direction

• 10-foot-wide paved shoulders replacing the grassy median

• Concrete traffic barriers

• Direct connectors between I-45 and the Grand Parkway

What to expect: The project timeline includes:

• 2025: Data collected and needs evaluated

• 2026: Environmental studies begin

• Mid-2026: Public meetings held

• Early 2027: Environmental decisions and detailed design

• Late 2027: Construction to begin

The project will take five years to complete.
