The Forest Oaks Swim and Racquet Club is set to undergo construction for a new pool and recreation center this fall, officials confirmed.

What’s happening?: Harris County Water Control Improvement District 110, which oversees the swim and racquet club in Spring, is replacing its almost 40-year-old facilities. As outlined in a master plan the district’s board approved in January, the first improvements will be made to the pool and recreation center.

The district will demolish its existing swimming pool, canopies and support buildings to replace it with a new pool, recreation center, equipment building, water slide and playground, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

The specifics: The upgraded pool will have a heating and chilling system, WCID110 District Manager Brian Mills said, which will allow the pool to open earlier and closer later each year. The new recreation building will include:

• Two outdoor showers

• Covered breezeway space

• New audio system

• Second floor viewing deck

• New event space

Fusion Pot & Grill officials said the restaurant opened in May and is now offering all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue and sushi.

The Details: Fusion Pot & Grill specializes in all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue services for $23.99 during lunch and $36.99 for dinner, according to the website. Kid prices range from $9.99-$12.99 for lunch and $12.99-$16.99 for dinner. Meat options to choose from include beef, lamb, seafood, pork and chicken. The eatery also offers sushi.

The Houston Audubon Society, founded in 1969, has renamed itself Birds Houston as part of a broader effort to clarify its mission and modernize its identity, according to a release from the organization. The organization also unveiled a new logo featuring the Yellow-throated Warbler, a longtime symbol tied to its conservation history.

What you need to know: The name change is intended to make the organization’s work more immediately clear, including protecting birds and their habitats, conserving critical land, providing education and nature experiences and advocating for conservation policies, the release states.

Also of note: The new name comes ahead of the eighth annual Houston Bird Week, scheduled for Sept. 19-26, with registration opening Sept. 1 for events across the Greater Houston area.

Democrat Gina Hinojosa, an Austin state representative, and Libertarian Pat Dixon, a professional engineer, are challenging Republican incumbent Greg Abbott in the Nov. 3 election. Abbott is seeking a fourth term in the governor's mansion.

The background: Abbott beat 10 Republican challengers in the March primary election, while Hinojosa beat eight other Democratic candidates to advance to the November election. Dixon was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.
