The AABY Foundation is rebranding as the ABBY Foundation, according to clinic coordinator Juanita Zavala.

How we got here: Kay Pass created the nonprofit in 2004 and opened a thrift store to fund its mission of helping animals and their owners in the local area and across the Houston region. Due to health issues, Pass had to step away from the organization.

Going forward: The transition includes the following details:

• The nonprofit's thrift store in New Caney closed in August.

• Services will continue, including low-cost pet vaccination events and assistance for people experiencing homelessness and their pets.

• The same nonprofit leaders and board members will continue to work under the new ABBY organization.

Several events are scheduled to take place in New Caney and Porter from Sept. 25-27:

• Easy Steps to Voting: The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County will present bilingual voting information for attendees ages 18 and older at R.B. Tullis Library on Sept. 26.

• Chicks & Hogs: BBQ & Brew-Fest: Family Promise of Lake Houston will host a festival on Sept. 26 at A.V. ‘Bull’ Sallas Park to benefit local people experiencing homelessness.

• Ride 'n' Vibe CarShow: Lil Jesse Day: This event on Sept. 26 at The Food Zone Grand Texas will support childhood cancer awareness with a toy drive, car show and live music.

• Dancing Through the Decades: New Caney New Horizons will host its annual fundraiser ball on Sept. 26 at The Atrium Center to help people with developmental disabilities.

• Waterbark Day: Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures will welcome dogs for water park activities on Sept. 27.

Organizations in The Woodlands area will host four arts events this fall:

• The Fine Craft, Art & Design Show on Sept. 26-27 at the Town Center North Exhibit Hall, featuring 60 juried artists and designers. Admission is $15-$22.

• The juried exhibition The Art of Belonging from Oct. 20-Jan. 14 at 9450 Grogans Mill Road. Members of The Woodlands Art League and the Conroe Art League can submit work until Sept. 30 for a $20 fee, with 30 works chosen for the exhibit. Attendance is free, and an opening reception is scheduled for Nov. 12.

• The Fall Fine Arts Show on Oct. 17 at Market Street, showcasing more than 30 local artists. The free event will move to Oct. 24 in case of inclement weather.

• The Woodlands Photography Club's 2026 Award Ceremony and Exhibition on Nov. 7 at 25814 Budde Road. The free event features work by top area photographers.
