Two Roanoke City Council members vacate seats, prompt special election

Two council members are stepping away from Roanoke City Council, and a special election within the city this May to fill their seats.

What’s happening? Bryan Moyers stepped down from Roanoke City Council at the Jan. 27 meeting as council member of Ward 1, according to city documents.

Moyers is moving out of Roanoke, making him ineligible to serve on the council, Public Engagement Manager Sandra Pettigrew said.

“I'm very proud to have served alongside [city council members and staff] and done a lot of great things for the city of Roanoke,” Moyers said. “I wish you all the best. Roanoke will always be in my heart. I will always wish the best for this city and everybody that is involved in it.”

Hogan Page will also be stepping down as council member of Ward 1 at a later date, and his spot will be filled during the May special election. Page will be moving away from Roanoke, making him ineligible to serve on the council, Pettigrew said.

Nekter Juice Bar to offer smoothies, bowls, cold-pressed juices along Heritage Trace Parkway

Nekter Juice Bar is coming to the north Fort Worth area in February.

The details: Nekter offers fresh-pressed juices and a variety of bowl and smoothie options, such as Açaí Banana Berry, which has strawberry, banana and blueberry, and its PB&J bowl, which has peanut butter chia pudding, according to its menu.

Nekter has a number of other locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including its McKinney location, which opened in August. Other locations are in Flower Mound, Frisco, Southlake and Plano.

Part of Chadwick Farms Park in Fort Worth to be repurposed for permanent easement

A park in north Fort Worth will lose a small portion of its space due to the Trinity River Authority of Texas relocating a water meter.

What’s happening? Fort Worth officials granted a permanent easement for wastewater, electric and access at Chadwick Farms Park during the Jan. 27 council meeting.

The total easement totals 6,126 square feet located near the entrance of the park, according to city documents.

What’s next: The project is expected to start in April and last for four months. The disturbed areas would be repaired with sod, according to city documents.

The park will remain open while the easement is installed.

McKinney apartment renovations, Flower Mound street reconstruction: See 5 of the latest permits filed in the DFW area

Apartment renovations and road reconstruction in Flower Mound are two new projects filed recently with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Here are five of the most expensive permits for North Texas-area projects filed with TDLR in the past week.

1. Indco I-35 Eagle: A new 111,923-square-foot building with office and warehouse space will be constructed along I-35, according to a TDLR filing. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

  • Location: I-35 frontage road, Fort Worth
  • Estimated timeline: April 1-Dec. 31
  • Estimated cost: $21 million

2. Skyway Villas Apartments renovations: A local apartment complex in McKinney is renovating the interior and exterior of 233 apartment units, according to a TDLR filing. Renovations are estimated to take roughly a year and a half to complete.
  • Location: 2000 Skyline Drive, McKinney
  • Estimated timeline: July 1, 2026-Jan. 1, 2028
  • Estimated cost: $20 million
