SCUCISD board updates local policy for library collection process

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD's board of trustees approved updates to the district's local policy Sept. 25, staying up to date with state legislative changes on school library collection standards.

In a nutshell: The board unanimously approved updates related to Texas Senate Bill 13, which was signed into law for the 2025-26 school year.

According to previous reporting by Community Impact, the bill states that parents can see records of all materials their children check out from a school library, with allowance for a parent to submit a list of items their child is not allowed to access.

The bill text states that districts must have a library collection development policy that prohibits the possession, acquisition and purchase of "harmful material," as well as other updates prohibiting library material "containing indecent content or profane content" and material referring someone to a website containing prohibited content.
